There is a reason he keeps the cloak. Never mind that it is not exactly the most convenient garment around, or that it makes him that much more difficult to blend in a crowd - he has learned to live with all of these drawbacks.
It is the same reason he keeps his ungainly shoes; the same reason he leaves his hair long and tangled. He knows what he looks like, a monster stepping straight from children's caution stories.
But red is such an eye-catching colour.
If people are looking at the red, they are not looking at his claw.
