The Eye of the Beholder
One-Shot
To most, Helga is not pretty, Helga is not attractive, Helga is not even 'easy on the eyes'. In fact, Helga is just plain ugly.
Her pale blonde hair, done up in strange, gravity-defying pigtails, looks frizzy and odd, her skin rough and scarred, her body entirely too tall, too skinny, and comes off as just gangly, her eyes are a plain blue, the same blue as anyone with blue eyes, and aren't worth a second glance, her fashion sense baggy and unflattering, making her hips seemingly none-existent, her nose too large and bulbous, and her dark, bushy unibrow almost painful to look at.
So Helga is not pretty, Helga is not attractive, Helga is not even 'easy on the eyes'. Helga comes off as just ugly, in fact.
But to him, her golden hair is soft and shiny, her fair skin smooth and delicate to the touch, her wide blue eyes under her long, dark eyelashes striking and electric, making him feel as if he could stare into them for hours on end, her fashion sense endearing, modest, and much more flattering than most womens' fashion senses, her nose simply adorable, and her unibrow only seeming to complete her look perfectly.
To him, Helga is beautiful, Helga is very attractive, Helga is much more than just 'easy on the eyes'. In fact, Helga is nothing short of perfection in his mind.
Perhaps one's beauty is only dependant on the eye of the beholder. Perhaps whether someone is ugly or beautiful can not be stated as a fact. Perhaps even the most 'unattractive' people, can come off as lovely to some, because they are different, and are able to see them for what they truly are.
...Or perhaps Arnold is just too blinded by love.
A/N: I truly don't think anyone can just all out say that someone or something is ugly. It's all about perspective. Beauty is not a fact, you can't base it on science or anything. I know this, because me and my mom are always going on about different guys. Like, I'll see someone, and I think they are 'smoking hot'... *Blushes* But then my mom will look at them and cringe, and then I'm all, "How in the heck can you say HE'S ugly? He's so HOT!" XD
Also, I once saw some tv show where they had some 'beauty experts' make measurements and all these complicated tests, to give them a 'beauty rating' or something, and the people they gave tens to were all pretty ugly in my opinion. So this is how I see everything. Sure, someone can be considered 'ugly' by most, like in a poll, but there's always bound to be some percentage of population who find the person to be, at the very least, okay-looking. No one can make a definitive statement of someone's appearance.
It's all about the eye of the beholder. To me, in fact, butterflies are just about the ugliest creatures on the planet. Have you ever seen one of those things up close? *Shudders* So yes, I hate butterflies. I think they're hideous little buggers, but to most people - butterflies are just beautiful. *Bats eyelashes dramatically*
So this is how I see things. I've read a lot of fics where people have stated that Helga was 'ugly' as a kid, but I actually think she's really pretty. I know, maybe I'm just out of my nut, but I do think she's pretty nice looking. She's just got something about her that's nice. So yeah, I think she's pretty, just in a different sort of way. Especially in the "Hey Arnold! Movie"! She was very pretty there! And Arnold looked especially adorable! :D And they gave Gerald bushier eyebrows too. XD
So there we are.
Read, Review, Laugh, Love, Sing, Dance, Live, Die, Eat, Starve, Create, Destroy, and all that other nice stuff. XD
