"A SURPRISING DREAM"

BY

GINGER ROBERTS

Garfield and Arlene were having a picnic, eating sandwiches in a beautiful forest glen. Arlene had made the sandwiches herself, and had packed them in a picnic basket. Just then a huge grizzly bear jumped out from the bushes and roared viciously at them. Arlene screamed in horror. "Don't worry Arlene! I'll save you!" Garfield cried. He marched up to the bear, stuck his claws out, and clawed the bear on the face. The bear roared in pain from the deep scratches. Then Garfield started beating up the bear, fighting it with his bare hands. The bear fought back, clawing viciously at Garfield-leaving deep scratches all over his body.

Then Garfield ran over to Arlene, who was scared out of her wits. He swept her into his arms, and ran far away from the bear and the picnic site. When they were safe he set her down. "Are you okay Arlene?" he asked her. "I'm fine. Thanks for saving me Garfield" Arlene replied graciously, happy that for once Garfield went out of his way to heroically save her from danger. "There's something I gotta tell you Arlene. I'm not Garfield" Garfield replied. "What?!" Arlene cried confused. "Garfield" reached up, grabbed a zipper, and unzipped himself revealing to be Nermal in disguise! Arlene gasped in shock. "Nermal!" she cried.

Arlene woke up in bed, sitting straight up, gasping from pure shock. A dream. It had only been a dream. But what did it mean? Why did Nermal disguise himself as Garfield to go on a picnic with her, and bravely save her from a vicious bear? Did it mean that Nermal was her true love and not Garfield?! That the sweet caring guy she was looking for was actually Nermal? That Nermal was the brave strong guy she tried to find in Garfield? Suddenly it all made sense and all clicked together. Nermal was indeed the guy she was looking for. Garfield would never go out of his way to bravely save her from danger. He would've saved the sandwiches before even thinking to save her. Arlene smiled, closed her eyes, and lied back down, her heart beating with love over her discovery that had come to her in a dream.
