Orbiting Spatulas
By IncendioVerum
At times her centrifugal force is stronger than you think. She draws so close to you that you think this time, THIS time you and she will collide, in the biggest bang you can possibly imagine; you two rotating planets, as different as planets can be occupying the same galaxy. And then she turns in her orbit with a coy smile and floats away, her northern lights dancing in the reflection of your eyes as you watch her drift. But she is always in a forward circular motion, and she is soon pulled by a force stronger than gravity, unconsciously drifting back into your path.
It's as if she can't help it, isn't even aware of it really, until she's brushing the dust off your lapel, or pulling back that untameable piece of hair that's always falling in front of your eyes. It's in the way she snuggles close to you on the couch, with or without company. It's in the simple touch of a knee, a hand, an arm, a look that speaks volumes and draws you even closer into her atmosphere. It's in the power of a single word, a name. "Jane".
Your orbit is wider then hers. You run much closer to the hot sun than she does, and are thrown farther out into the cold darkness of space. You have always had the more severe path, vacillating between two extremes of temperature. Your planet is wild and hardy, but weather-worn and scarred on the surface. Her planet is lush and green, and mild and welcoming. And you realize that out of all the planets balancing each other out in your universe, it is her mass, her gravitational power that pulls you back into your inner orbit. She is able to burn off your outward momentum with the strength of her pull and the density of her system. She won't let you fall into the sun, or into the silent dark. She is slowly changing your orbit with the steady pull from her own.
It's in the way you find yourself stepping up behind her and placing a hand on her back or an elbow for support and protection. It's in the way you know that you would follow her anywhere, do whatever she asked, go to the ends of all the earths for her. It's in the way you let her lush greenness invade your wild scarred landscape with her calm contact. Together, you evolve, as you slowly revolve in space, a long distance waltz that is bringing your two planets into perfect alignment.

Author's note: First time I've tried writing in this style. (Usually I'm more in-the-moment realism and long stories). However the headcanon J/M really lends itself to all kinds of imagination. I'd love to hear what y'all think. Be gentle, I think it's my first released story in quite some time and my first completed R&I. Lastly, apologies to any astrophysicists out there. I am a Doc but, astronomy is a little outside of my scope of practice. I'm a trekkie though, does that count?
