~The Night The Demon Lost Her Mate For Good~
Shadow lay curled up in bed in her penthouse hideout, in Millennium City. Completely miserable and heartbroken.
'Is this it?' she wondered to herself. 'Am I actually going to die from heartbreak?'
She shivered; she was starting to feel cold. A few tears slid down her cheeks; she had no lover to warm her bed, no beloved Shyffer to hold her close and tell her everything was alright. Certainly, she'd slept alone missing the comfort of her mate before, but now…now she knew. He didn't want her.
Wrapping her arms around herself in hopes it would warm her up a bit, she sniffled slightly, careful to stay quiet. She'd had to put on a strong face for Nevins. She couldn't just break down crying in the middle of Club Caprice and beg Shyffer to take her back. At the very least, she'd gotten a sincere apology and even a last kiss. She'd already decided to forgive him.
'It wasn't really his fault, anyway,' she told herself. 'I just…wasn't good enough. I couldn't make him happy.'
The demon-in-human-form sighed softly, listening to the sound of Nevins' footfalls as he wandered around exploring the penthouse. Her heart hurt. She bit her lip; the pain was intense, she had just forsaken someone she'd claimed as a mate, as a lifelong partner, but she couldn't let herself die yet. She couldn't let Nevins become Oliver. She'd promised that she would get up again the next day, assured him that she'd stop crying.
'It's not really a lie, right…? I'll stop crying tomorrow…' Shadow sniffled a little more, shifting to rub at her eyes. It didn't help; if anything, the tears only came thicker and faster. She silently hoped Nevins wasn't too affected by her pain, the last thing she needed was for him to break down crying just because she was upset.
Another hour or so went by, and she'd finally ended up crying herself to sleep. When Nevins finished his exploration and came to curl up on the foot of the bed, she was completely oblivious. She'd stay that way until she woke up the next afternoon.
