Chapter One:
A young noble tapped his foot in irritation, boredom, and impatience, he hated these functions. He didn't see why his parents made him come to these things. Everyone knew that inevitably they would arrange a match for him. He blew out in frustration, but the breath was sucked back in by a sudden intake of air caused by sight of the beautiful creature before him.
She was a tall goddess, with silky hair that shone like the sun, her eyes green like the forest. She had captured the essence of the outside world and embodied it in the form of a graceful lady, whose eyes twinkled when he approached to ask for a dance…
"May I have this dance, my lady…?"
"Esmerdia"
"Well met Esmerdia, my name is Phillip, Prince Phillip."
The young couple danced the night away and then resumed dancing at their wedding two weeks later.
They lived happily for a few years, but began to grow worried when Esmerdia did not produce an heir. However the tide turned in the fourth year of their marriage, when they received news that Esmerdia would be giving birth.
This was welcome news to the kingdom of Farren, and the people rejoiced with the expecting parents. It was decided that the child would be named Iridesca. But life does not stop moving and the news of the death of King Cygnus, soon after the birth of Iridesca, catapulted the young couple to their positions as King and Queen.
With all the stress and worry of running a kingdom, Phillip and Esmerdia had little time for their daughter, but they spent as much time as they could and taught her the right thing to do in every situation, they thought they had equipped her to deal with every situation she would come to find while they were protecting her. They loved her and her them, she was kind and generous, a little girl.
But her mother grew ill when she was eight, and she eventually died. King Phillip was devasted, Iridesca was heart-broken. But what neither of the two knew that Esmerdia's last words would have such a resounding and shaping impact on their lives.
"Phillip my dear, I know that in time you will have to marry again, but when you do, I ask that you will only marry someone who is like me."
