Caroline finds out about a friend from Klaus' past. Not really jealous Caroline, but I will be making one eventually. Next chapter is titled Kol's Favorite BrOtp.
Caroline sighs as she flips through the channels on Nik's smart TV. She groans when she finds nothing entertaining or that she wants to watch at the moment. She sits up in his really comfty bed. "There's nothing on."
Normally, she'd bug her boyfriend but he isn't flying in untill tonight. She huffs before she gets up and starts looking through his stuff. Usually when she's here, they take part in more...sinful activties.
But he's not.
She opens a drawer to find a bunch of his underwear neatly folded. He, no doubt, had a memeber of his 'staff' organize his clothes. She inches towards his walk in closet. Caroline peeks in her head into his closet to find a lot of different colored henleys. Gray, black, and a few white ones. That's as far as the color scheme goes. Caroline makes a mental note to have a talk with her boyfriend about diversity. She steps in the huge closet to see a stack of sweaters hidden in the far back. Yellow. Orange. Caroline almost gasps at the sight of bright colors. She quickly calms herself down. Rebekah was more than likely mad at Nik and bought him a few ugly sweaters. Truly hideous sweaters.
She runs her fingers over all of the heavy Nik scented shirts. She stops when a box falls down off the shelf in his closet. She picks the medium sized object up off the dark hardwood floor. Caroline, curiously, tries to open the box. She pulls the lid off of the box to find sketches.
Caroline picks up a picture to see him and a blonde girl. It's not Rebekah or even Cami (she'd met her once). She brings it closer to her face. Nik has his arm slinged causally around her shoulder. Her head rests on his shoulder.
Caroline looks at the page in anger. She scoffs. I can't believe he's cheating on me! She thinks in pure anger. I can't believe he's cheating on me! This time it's coated in sadness. Her eyes start to water before shakes her head violently. He'd never do this to you.
Stop! He agreed to keep your relationship a secret just so he could spend time with you. He wouldn't do this. Then Caroline again rationalizes that Nik is smart. If he did cheat, she'd find out in a decade. That's if he wanted her too.
"Caroline," she hears a soothing British accent call out. "Caroline," he calls out once again but she hears the voice more clear as he climbs the stairs. Nik finally finds her sitting his closet looking through a box of old sketches.
While looking through the box, she found a thousand more drawings of the blonde. She even found a few shots with Rebekah in smiling and laughing.
"Who's she?" Caroline asks in a calm voice.
"A friend," he responds taking a seat next to her. Nik decides to not question why she's sitting on his floor and looking through his boxes of pictures. It would only lead to an agrument.
"What kind of friend?"
"My best friend," he smiles sadly.
Caroline turns to look at him. "Oh."
"We met in the 1950s."
"Really?" She says curiously. Caroline loved the times he'd pull her into his lap and just tell her stories of his past. Though, Caroline had a feeling he left gaps out. The female gaps, of course.
"You would have hated the 50s."
"You think?" she asks taking this into consideration.
"I do, sweetheart," he grabs her by the waist gently and sets her on his lap. She shifts slightly to get comfortable.
"It was a time in the world where society wanted women to go back to being domestic housewife." Alright, you had your play time, now, get back to being a mom. "Most women were married by 19. In fact, you went to college to get a M.R.S. otherwise known has a husband."
"Why'd you think about that?"
He takes a few minutes to think just like Caroline did a second ago. "I think everybody should be free to do what they want unless, of course, they interfere with my plans for world domination."
When she first met him, maybe part of her still does, she'd call him a selfish ass. She'd scream at him, "That's not how life works." Now though, she smiles and buries head into his shoulder. Caroline didn't agree with his bloody methods. But over the years, she's learned to look past them. Did Caroline voice her opinion after he murdered someone in cold blood? She sure as hell did. She was not going to be silenced into an obedient trophy in this relationship or in life. She had that with Damon and Tyler. The world be damned if it happened to her again.
She wasn't going to change him either. Nik didn't need redemtion, and he didn't need to be forgiven. He needs to be loved. Someone to tell him they care and are there for him. Compliments can go a long way. Should someone depend on them? No but to know someone gives a damn can truly change everything. Why do you think people post achievements on social media. Like doesn't mean like. It means I see you and I care enough to spend two seconds double clicking on a picture.
"Tell me about her?"
"She was free willed. Told me no. She told me off when I did something wrong. She was smart, went to college and got an actual degree. A couple, if I remember correctly. She loved politics."
"Really?"
"She loved that kind of stuff. She loved making change and helping others in gerenal. She protested for women's and civil rights."
"Is that why you took intrest in me?"
"Yep."
"Did you ever..."
He snickers, "No, love, it wasn't like that with her. She never saw me that way. I never saw her that way. Was she attractive? Yes. Was I in love with her like with you? No. If I ever made a move on her, she'd find a white oak stake and kill me."
"You mean she didn't fall for the accent and charming smile."
"So you admit I'm charming?"
She smiles before giggling at his wiggling eyebrows. Caroline shoves his chest. "Jerk," she mutters.
"You wound me, sweetheart."
After a comforable silence, Caroline finally gets the courage to ask what happened.
Nik looks down at their entangled hands. Seeing this, Caroline gives him an encouraging smile and squeezes his hand in reassurance.
"Mikael," he says in hatred and bitterness, "He found out about her, capatured her, totured her for being friends with me, then compelled her to kill 'Bekah and I." He chuckles darkly. "The compulsion wouldn't stop-"
"Until you two were dead."
"She failed. We eventually turned her. She didn't want this life. She didn't want the life I lived. Long story short, she decided not to feed. She was dead set on this. But Mikael made her kill a human. I didn't know this. She didn't want us to be there when she died, so she made us leave. We assumed she had a peaceful death. On January 1st, 1957, her head was delivered to us in a box."
"It isn't this box, is it?"
He laughs sadly, "No." Nik lifts his head up and mummbles, "Rest in peace, Susan, rest in peace."
A series of connected one-shots. By that, I mean this is the basis of all of them. No Hope (Eventually I'll write when she's alive and been born.) No Klayey. If Katherine is metioned, she will be alive. (I will NEVER do one where she's dead) It's a secret relationship. (Yep! Got a secret. Can you keep it? Swear this one you'll save.) Instead of making Klaus promise to never come back, they startedt dating. (Which I wish happened). A tribute to Susan B. Anothny. Though, she didn't go to college. She did not get a degree. Susan wasn't alive in the 1950s. She wasn't beheaded. Not a vampire. She passed of Pneumonia. If you vote and are a girl (or even African American. She was apart of the movement too) please, like many others, leave an 'I Voted' sticker on her grave. She rests in Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester, New York. Tell her Amara sent you. Note worthy: characters are a tad OOC in my humble opionon. Sucks to say, she never lived to see the 19th amendment passed. Not edited.
