THE PROPOSAL
FOLLOW-UP TO "REACTIONS"
After the eventful afternoon that day in the 1-6, Alex and I had started out strong. However, she was now beginning to doubt our relationship. I repeatedly told her, when interrogated, that she was it for me. Now today, I'm going to ask Dad for the ring, so I can prove my love.
It was 7AM. Beginning of yet another day of chasing perps, seeing the horrors of the world. Today, it was a 12-year-old girl who had been raped by her father. The cycle never ends.
We'd just gotten back from interrogating the father, when dad called me into his office. Elliot, of course, responded with a smart-ass comment about getting into trouble riding the desk. I had gotten desk duty after a perp accused me of attacking him, which was later proven to be false. I replied with a witty comment about filling his DD5's out too efficiently, before walking into Cragen's office.
"What do you need, Cap?"
"Don't worry, you aren't in trouble." I had to breathe a sigh of relief at that. I thought it would be another undercover op with the tree-huggers. His next question intrigued me.
"Have you been having trouble with Alex?" He hit the nail right on the head, so I nodded.
"She's doubting that I love her. Dad, I think I need the ring."
A look of understanding crossed his face, and he walked over to his desk, reached in the top drawer on the right side, and pulled a black velvet box out. I already knew what the ring looked like, a 5 karat diamond ring. I pullled my phone out, texting everyone to meet me in the bullpen.
5 minutes later, everyone was in the bullpen. Elliot, Munch and Fin were by their desks, George and Melinda by the board, Cragen beside me, and Alex in front of me.
"As you all know, me and Alex have been dating for 9 months. You all have been there through everything, the laughs and the tears, the celebrations and the fights, the thick and the thin. Through it all, and against all odds, we're still together. I've already told you, you are it for me, Alexandra Cabot. You are the one that stole my heart when you came in here, heels and all, making sure we weren't a bunch of crazies. When you bled out on the ground, and when we were told you were dead, a part of me inside died, because I never got the chance to tell you how I felt. When I saw you come back, the same part of me came back to life. I had never been in love, except for with you. You are the one I come home to at night, the one I wake up beside, the one I have in my thoughts all day at work. You are the one keeping me sane, and the one who I can be with through everything. Alexandra Cabot, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife, and will you marry me?"
I dropped to one knee, pulled out the box, opened it and looked into her eyes. I saw that she had tears in them, and she was smiling.
"Olivia Benson, I fell in love with you when you barged in my office demanding a search warrant. Nothing would make me happier than becoming your wife and marrying you. My answer is yes. Yes Olivia Benson, I will marry you!"
I pulled the ring out, and slid it onto her finger before sweeping her into my arms and kissing her senseless. I heard cheers and cat-calls from everyone else. My only thought at the moment: "Life is still perfect."
