Volume 1: The Maskmaker Prologue: You are Sophie
*You wake up somewhere cold and dark. You struggle to open your eyes.*
(Nnh...My head...What...What happened? Where am I?)
I looked down and my wrists were tied together in a knot. I contemplate my surroundings and it looks like I'm in a dingy corner. There is a bright and bare light bulb overhead...
(The...The last thing I remember is the club...)
I turned my head to see a masked man standing at a workbench. He was tall and had a black cloak on and a white mask. He skillfully laid out scary tools... a scalpel, a palette knife, and a bucket.
(Oh my gosh...Oh my GOSH!)
I look behind me, and I see a narrow flight of stairs. I cannot decide whether I should scream for help or to sneak out... I figure that there is no one around to hear me besides the masked man...so I sneak out. I use the corner of the wall as a brace and rise to my feet.
(I need to be quiet... I can make it out of here...)
I take one step and it creaks! The masked man charges towards me! I raced as fast as I could down the stairs...
(Oh my gosh...)
I find myself on the deck of a boat, looking out at the rocky shores of Alcatraz Island...I was right, there is no one to hear me scream!
The spray of the ocean stings my cheeks, but I am to scared to feel it.
(No...No!)
The masked man is now behing me holing a syringe. I look down and see choppy waves pounding against the side of the boat.
"Please don't hurt me!" I wail and fall to my knees begging for mercy, "please...please just let me go! I'll give you whatever you want!"
The man walked over to me. "Yes...yes you will."
He jerked violently on my arm, pulling me to my feet. My should cracked and I was sure it was broken. The pain...the pain was so agonizing! I could barely take it! I was so scared.
"Aaagh!" I scream...I was in so much pain!
"No more running," the masked man said. It was so blunt. What could he want with me?
The man stick the syringe in my neck... I hate needles so I naturally felt queasy.
"Ahh!" I let out a scream.
(What did he just give me...? I feel...dizzy...)
The world started bluring around me and my body goes limp. I try to move it but I can't...I must be paralyzed. The man carries me down below the deck and lays me on the workbench.
"Hhhhh..." my body lets out a sigh. Not a relieved sigh, but a relaxation of the body sigh.
"Don't worry. I'm not going to hurt you," he says.
The man dips a palette knife into a bucket and uses it to apply a layer of plaster across my face.
"I'm going to show the world your true face," He says.
Then he continues to work, covering my mouch and nostrils, but leaving my eyes for last. I try to struggle, but I can't move! My limbs lay dead at my sides. My lungs burn for air and my vision dims...then the darkness swallows me up and I feel weightless...I must be dying.
Sophie then died.
