Tom Riddle was a spider, sitting in the center of his web, tugging here and pulling there so that he remained at the center, secure and safe. He was always in control of his environment, always in control of those around him.

Unless one of the people around him happened to be one Harry James Potter. Harry was a wild card, fierce and independant. Tom liked to think of himself as a mountain, high above everything else. Well, Harry was the mountain on the other side of the valley, a challenge, the only other high point surrounded by valleys. Seperated as they were by these vallies, Tom knew next to nothing about Harry. Of course, there was the basic knowledge that everyone knew; a half blood and an orphan, raised under the tutelage of Albus Dumbledore while under the authority and care of Minerva McGonagall. He was powerful and rather silent. He was in control of himself and Tom was sure that if he so desired he could control everyone around him too, but he didn't. How very frustrating.

Harry was also a hero from the time he was born. His parents were killed by the Dark Lord Grindelwald, and he was raised as a soldier against the murderer. Although the final kill was performed by Dumbledore, Harry had played a major role in the war and was hailed as a leader. But Harry was not like other Light soldiers, oh no, he was very different. He was a Dark wizard, Tom could taste it in the air around him. No one else seemed to acknowledge it, so Tom didn't either, except in the private recesses of his own mind. Harry was a lion being maqueraded as a sheep, a snake being dressed up as a lion. It was ridiculous.

And Harry probably didn't even know! He was always under the watchful eyes of the staff, the students, and hell, the entire wizarding world was constantly watching him. Tom wanted, with every fiber of his being, to make Harry Potter an ally. Because even though the students of Slytherin assumed he was an ignorant servant to Dumbledore, Tom knew better. Tom could see the potential shimmering behind the other boy's vibrant eyes. Harry was powerful, cunning, and intelligent. Harry was a beautiful, myterious creature trying to hide behind the mask of being as plain as possible.

And it was excruciating for Tom to watch. So he decided he wouldn't anymore. Tom was a spider, Tom was a mountain, and Tom always got what he wanted. Tom wanted Harry Potter, and he had never failed in obtaining what he wanted. He didn't plan to start then.

Just as he reached his decision he looked up, across the Great Hall, towards the Gryffindor table. Shining, emerald eyes were watching him carefully. His own dark stare locked with the other boy's for a few moments, before someone next to Harry tapped his cheek. Harry broke eye contact hesitantly and looked down, before grinning brilliantly at one of his friends.

Tom repeated, how very frustrating.

A/N: So I have about a thousand other things to work on again, but this little drabble simply would not leave me alone! This will not be a full length story (probably) as, like I said, I have a thousand other things to work on right now. I just thought it was interesting and I love reviews, so... There you go.

I apologize for any mistakes or errors. My keyboard is currently missing the "L" key all together, so it is very hard to type.

Any reviews or PMs would be very much appreciated! If anyone has any ideas on where this story could go, I'd love to hear them! Thanks so much for reading!
