Izumi was an enthusiastic, rather open-minded colleague, who had decided within a day or so at work that Haruhi was a dear, dear friend. When she found out about the pregnancy, she had insisted on a celebratory get together to try an assortment of games and myths relating to future babies. Haruhi, being well used to far more eccentric human behavior, took this all in stride.
This was essentially how she wound up lying on the floor with a sewing needle swinging over her stomach.
"What are you doing?"
Izumi looked up and scowled at the twins' tandem question. She had insisted this was a 'girls only' event and tried her best to keep them away. But, because they were the twins and Haruhi didn't care either way, they continued to hover.
"It's to determine the gender of the baby, she explained, glancing back the needle and brightening, "See? It's swinging instead of spinning, so it's a boy!"
Hikaru and Kaoru exchanged a skeptical glance as Haruhi stood and straightened her clothes. "It probably won't be," she stated blandly, oblivious to her dear, dear friend's crestfallen expression, "You never really know until it's born, right?"
Slightly glum, Izumi nodded and inquired, "So when's the due date again?"
"Early May."
She bounced back almost immediately. "Ah, that means he was probably conceived sometime in August!" she said knowingly.
Hikaru grinned lecherously. "Hm, it was hot that month."
"We stayed inside a lot," continued Kaoru, "Not that it was much cooler…"
Both women shot them a glare, and the twins wisely retreated to the kitchen. Haruhi sighed and shook her head, allowing herself to be lead into the next test Izumi had in mind.
