The warm salty air brushed past Kite as he stood, staring out at the beach.
He couldn't believe it.
He had lost.
His whole team lost.
After all that effort and training, all the hard work he had done and how hard he had pushed his team mates.
He had really pushed his team mates to their limits before their departure from Okinawa and he wasn't really that surprised they had all left him as soon as they landed, quickly walking off, paying no heed to Kite.
He was disappointed. Not in his team; but in himself.
He had gotten too cocky and brash; he had under estimated Seishun Gakuen and that lead them to their untimely defeat.
Sighing, Kite looked out at the horizon, thinking that maybe, maybe, if he gets a second chance, it'll be different.
Everything will be different.
The way he treats his team mates will be different, his attitude will change and-
"Oi, Kite, there you are! We've been looking for you everywhere!"
Kite turned around and found Kai waving at him, "Hey, guys! He's over here!" he called out over his shoulder and then quickly ran down the sand dunes to his captain.
"Geez, you can really be a hard man to find sometimes." Kai scolded him playfully, punching Kite's shoulder lightly.
Soon the whole team was there and Kite didn't know what to do as a wave of emotions ran through him.
"Eishirou," Chinen began but was cut off by Rin.
"C'mon Kite! No need to look so rock like! You should be happy." He exclaimed, slinging an arm around Kite's shoulders.
Kite gave him a stern stare, silently telling him to get off but Rin just ignored him.
"As I was saying, Eishirou," Chinen began.
"We brought a picnic!" Tanishi interrupted, indicating to the picnic basket he was holding.
"Yeah, we should go set it up now." Tomoya suggested
Aragaki snickered, "yeah, before Tanishi goes and eats it all!"
This made Kai and Rin chuckle until Chinen said in a loud voice, "If anyone interrupt's me one more time, I'll dye all your fringes!"
Tanishi quickly ran off with the picnic basket, screaming about how he loved his hair, Tomoya and Aragaki followed telling him to give them back their food while Kai and Rin walked off mumbling something about sleeping with traps set up tonight, just in case.
Now that everyone was gone, Chinen relaxed a bit and Kite looked at him expectantly, "You were saying?"
Chinen looked down at Kite, "Eishirou, we don't blame you." He said and walked off to where Tanishi was setting out the picnic.
Kite stared at the dunes in front of him and looked away so no one could see his smile.
Yes, I will change Kite thought as he joined the rest of his team, and it'll be for the best.
