MSMF Prompt #43: Movie Night
"So, Otto, you said you picked up something down on that planet you want to share?" Antauri asked.
"Yeah, I got some of what they call movies. It's a long way back to Shuggazoom, maybe we can watch some of them!" the green monkey replied. He pulled out a stack of thin rectangular boxes and a larger box labeled "DVD Player". "See, I even got the thing you play them on!"
"I see, and how pray tell are you going to use that?" Gibson asked. "Is it even compatible with our system?"
"I'll make it work." Otto set down the boxes and opened a panel on the front of the main console. "Give me a couple hours, then we'll have a movie night!"
Sparx chuckled. "Two hover burgers says he doesn't get that toy of his working," he said to Nova.
"You're on," she said. "I think he'll manage just fine. Come on, let's make some snacks for when he does get it working."
"Do you require any assistance?" Antauri asked Otto.
"Um, not really..." Otto slid farther into the console. "Is anything showing up on the viewscreen yet?"
"It has turned blue," Antauri replied.
"Good. Hand me the big box there, will you?" A hand appeared from the depths of the console.
Antauri shook his head and picked up the large box. "Would you like me to open it for you?"
Otto seemed to be sliding farther into the console. "Could you? There's not a lot of room in here!"
Antauri smiled and used his ghost claw to slice one side of the box open. He carefully unwrapped parts and wires and handed them to Otto one at a time.
True to his word, two hours later Otto announced that it was Movie Night time. Nova and Sparx carried in some Earth popcorn that they'd made and a variety of drinks. They turned their round pod chairs toward the main viewscreen and settled in.
"So what movie are we going to see first?" Sparx asked.
"You, owing me two hover burgers," Nova retorted.
"This one looks cool, Ghostbusters!" Otto said, holding up the case.
"You just like it because the case is green," Chiro said.
"So what?" Otto said as he pulled the DVD out of its case and slid it in the newly-hooked-up player. Pulling out a remote of his own design, Otto sat in his chair and with one button, dimmed the lights and started the movie.
Four hours later, after viewing both Ghostbusters and its sequel, Otto was dancing around singing the theme song while Sparx dug through the pile of DVDs looking for the next film. "Wow, look at this, six movies called Star Wars!"
"No way, that's for next movie night!" Nova said. "Pick out one movie Sparx!"
"Okay, okay. How about this one, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy? I'd like to see what they have to say about it."
"I thought that planet had not yet developed interstellar travel?" Gibson wondered. "How could they have a guide to the galaxy?"
"Let's find out," Nova said. "Put it on!"
"How do you work this thing Otto?" Sparx asked, poking at the DVD player. Otto jumped up and helped him put the DVD on.
"You know, I think we should make this movie night a regular thing," Chiro said. "This is kind of fun!"
"Agreed," Antauri said.
"Most definitely," Gibson said.
"Yahoo!" Otto shouted.
"Sure thing," Sparx said.
"Sounds good to me!" Nova agreed.
"Shhh, the movie is starting," Otto said. The Hyperforce sat back to watch the next movie.
