I was skating, that's when it all happened. I had just finished putting my guards on to leave when a black mass came tumbling down the stairs not fifty yards from me. I stood up to get a better look at it and Ron shouted something at me. I knew what it was the millisecond it stopped rolling. I ignored Hermione and Ron's shouts to go tend to my best friend. It was Harry. I got over to him and saw that his arms were splayed around him at impossible angles and his face; oh his face was covered in blood. With some burst of Herculean strength, I gathered him up in my arms and ran. I could hear his laboured breathing rattling through his chest and reverberating through my own. I ran faster. I got to the doors of the sports complex and a group of boys from Durmstrang blocked my way. I screamed incoherent words at them and they parted with a shocked look on their faces. I ran. It was a miracle I didn't slip or catch my skates on anything. I looked up just at the right time to see Hagrid and Professor Snape rushing towards me. When I slowed, I realized that Harry was looking at me. I dropped to my knees and held him tighter to my chest so I didn't drop him. Hagrid took him from me and that was when I broke down. Snape came over to me and put a hand on my back, saying it was going to be ok. He apparated the both of us to St. Mungo's just in time to see Harry enter a room on a gurney. As the Professor and I neared the door, it was closed tightly in front of us. I almost broke down again when Snape told me to come sit with him, and that the healers needed to do their work.
It was a long and gruelling night.
At about 4 o'clock the next morning the healers told Severus and me, since we had come to a first name basis over the night, both of us fearing the worst for Harry; that we could go see him. We both walked rather quickly into the room, Severus had transfigured my skates into shoes long ago, and we each took a side of the bed. I gently brushed Harry's bangs away from his eyes and up under the cloth bandage that was around his forehead. He opened his eyes and looked drowsily at me and whispered something. When I couldn't hear what he said a single tear dropped from my eye onto his bandaged arms. He beckoned me closer and said that he quit. I sat up a little with a puzzled look on my face and he grabbed my hand that was resting on the gurney beside him. When He spoke next it was the same thing. That he quit, and with that he uncurled his fingers of the opposite hand and placed a golden snitch in my hand. I looked up with tears painfully forming in my eyes to see Severus pinching the bridge of his nose, trying not to do the same. When he found he couldn't hold it off any longer, he placed a hand over mine and Harry's and stroked what was visible of Harry's hair. In the softest voice that was oddly soothing, Severus told Harry that he was sorry. They both smiled at each other and that's when I knew it was my time to leave. I bent down and gave Harry a hug, told him I'll always be there for him, and left. When I turned to close the door I caught a glimpse of Severus and Harry sharing a tender kiss. I smiled.
