Chapter 1
Bittersweet Reunion
Peter Pan peered into the waters, floating over a large cloud drifting in the sky. The ocean was just beautiful in Neverland, how gracefully it gently held fish that glided through. There were green feathers dangling from his shirt. Suddenly, a tiny light made its way over to Peter.
"Isn't it a pretty morning, Tinkerbell?" he asked sighing, as his hair flew back in the wind. The fairy spun around happily. She poked him on the back. When he didn't respond, she repeated. "Oh, sorry! What do you need?"
Tinkerbell fluttered over his head and tapped her heels together.
"Ah! Great idea! We must go now. It's midnight, right?" She nodded. He gave a huge smile. "I've always wanted to see them again! What are we waiting for? Let's go!"
Peter took a spin, glanced back at the island and flew up higher and higher. Tink followed to the star that shimmered the brightest in the sky.
"Good night my darlings!" Mrs. Darling said tucking John into his bed. "Have very sweet dreams!" As she made her way to Michael then Wendy, the door creaked open.
Mr. Darling peeked his head through. "Good night," he said.
"Good night Father!" John responded placing his glasses on the nightstand. Mr. Darling shut the lights out and they both walked out. Wendy shut her eyes.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
John twisted in his bed, pulling the covers over his head.
Knock!
Wendy peeled her eyes open. What was all that banging? She looked at the curtains draping from the windowsill. Her face lit up with a spark. Was it who she thought it was? Could it really be? Her blue nightgown sparkled in the moonlight as she opened the window revealing a young boy, about her age, maybe older floating right in front of her.
"Peter…." She cried. "Is it really you?"
He placed his hand on her mouth gently. "Shush. We do not need to wake your parents!" He whispered. She nodded understandably. He removed his hand.
"What are you doing here? Are you all right?" How he missed her sweet voice.
"Yes, of course! Of course! Me and Tink just missed you! And John and Michael!" She smiled big.
"Oh Peter! I missed you too!"
"Wendy?"
"Yes?"
"Would… would you like to go back to Neverland with me?" He gave her an innocent look. Her smile faded. Peter bit his lip.
She gave him a slap on the shoulder. "Of course I'll go!" She said enthusiastically.
Peter grinned. "Go get your brothers!" Tink popped out behind him.
"Why hello again Tinkerbell!" Wendy waved. Tink flapped her wings together. "I'll be right there!" She ran over to John. "John, John! Wake up!" she whisper-yelled. He groaned.
"What, what?"
"It's Peter! He's here to take us to Neverland again!"
"Truly?" he asked. She nodded. He smiled and put his glasses back on. "Let's wake Michael then!" They walked over to his bed. He looked so peaceful in his sleep holding onto his teddy bear he kept for many years!
He opened one eye. "Wendy, what's going on?"
"It's Peter! Peter's back!"
"Peter?"
"Yes!" John said. "Come on sleepyhead!" He jumped out of bed.
"You can come in Peter!" Wendy called. He flew onto the bed. "So what it's like there these days? Is it great? Are the lost boys doing all right! Oh, I'd love to see them again, has there been anything we need to know about-?"
"Girls really do talk too much!" he complained grinning.
"Tell me about it!" John rolled his eyes.
"So, are we going to go?" Michael asked clutching his bear.
"Why of course! You've grown since I last saw you!" He bit his lip. "Growing up. Isn't it scary?"
"Well sometimes," Wendy explained, "but it's just the way life goes!"
"Do you remember how to fly?" Peter asked. The siblings exchanged the same look.
"It was been a while!" John said.
"Well then, no time to lose! Tinkerbell!" Tink flew next to him. He whispered something into her ear. She nodded and dropped pixie dust all over Wendy, Michael and John.
Wendy looked down. She was levitating off the ground, she did a back-flip. "Wow!"
"This is amazing!" John exclaimed.
"Whoo-ooh!" Michael laughed.
"Remember! The only way to keep flying is to believe!" They nodded.
Peter grabbed Wendy's hand. "Come on!" She grabbed John and John held Michael while Tink followed. They soared out the window and into the streets. They spun around the bell tower and went higher and higher into the sky.
Wendy looked down at the side of her house. Nana, the house dog lay, fast asleep.
"Where are we headed again?" Michael asked.
"Second star to the right, and straight on till morning!" Peter said. Michael glanced at John in confusion. He chuckled.
"That one!" He pointed to the brightest star in the sky.
"Hold on!" Peter warned. "Neverland here we come!"
