In The Light
By Gedatsu-Kitteh
"Remember: Always walk in the light. And if you feel like you're not walking in it, go find it. Love the light."- Roberta Flack
You've always walked in the light when everyone else preferred the darkness. And when you weren't, you were searching for it. You… always looking for the light.
You wanted others to find the light; and so you beckoned for them to walk beside you. You called for me to step into the light. But I would not go. Not even if it was for you.
But you didn't care. You walked alone. But you walked in the light. And maybe you sensed it. Or maybe it was just a coincidence. But walking in the light is where you found Him.
I remember that day. Not because I care; because it was funny to watch. The both of you walking in the light I mean. He never new he was in the light. He couldn't see it; like you and I could. But where ever you chased Him He would go.
I could see you two in the light. And I knew that you were digging too deep and He hadn't so much as picked up his shovel. Because no one else cared about the light and your eyes were too pure and full of light to come back to the dark. You only had each other.
But how could you not see?! He didn't want the light Dib! He didn't want it like you did! It was all a game to Him. You were in the light; why didn't you see it?
He left you alone in the light. I thought you were stronger Dib. I thought you weren't like the rest of us. How is it when He left you couldn't see the light anymore? All those times I could see you walking in it, and I even went so far as to venture in the rays with you to ask you what went wrong.
"I can't see the light anymore Gaz."
How could you not? Your eyes could see farther than anyone I've ever known! But I was like everyone else and I didn't care. So I left. Like Him.
But maybe I wasn't like Him. Because He'd come back. I guess your light had cut him deeper than I thought. He came back expecting light Dib. But you had none. Your light disappeared when He left.
I watched intently as He approached you. And then I noticed, He had a little bit of your light on Him. And as your fingers touched I saw the spark.
This whole time we were just skimming the surface. We never even thought of what could be on the other side. But not you, Dib. You were different. Ever since you caught a glimpse of the deep you went for it. The sky was never your limit and the end never came for you.
You always walked in the light. You always walked alone. So what made Him so special? Was it because you found Him in the light? Even though His eyes were blind like the rest of them? But I saw over time. You opened them for Him, and you were the first thing He saw.
You always wanted to give Dib. And you gave Him all your light and your eyes.
He was your darkness. And you were His light. How ironic how the roles were switched.
This is what you always wanted: to be someone's Star of Bethlehem; to be their lighthouse.
But didn't you know? Even stars die Dib. Even lighthouses go dark.
I saw you holding out your candle to Him. The only light you had left- the one you both shared. You told Him to blow it out. And He did.
You were always walking in the light Dib. You were always alone, but it was okay. You always had the light to guide you.
And now I see. For the first time I am walking in the light.
The place you're going has no boundaries. You're above the stars; above the universe; you're riding on your dreams.
Dib and Zim.
You were always walking in the light.
