Let Him Go
AN: This is a story about Julie letting Ben go. Warning, there are some spoilers, and fake things in this story.
DON'T READ PAST THIS, IF YOU WANT TO AVOID SPOILERS-
Okay, I warned you. Now then, for those who don't know, Ben and Julie really do break up in Omniverse. This just shows back story for why she left him so easily. The reasons are made up, though. It's still one of my personal head-canons, though. :) Enjoy.
It was nine thirty, but Julie just couldn't sleep. She was laying down, but thoughts of Ben wouldn't leave her alone long enough for sleep to find her. She curled in on herself as more tears ran down her face. She missed him too much for her liking.
Worst yet is he didn't know it. He probably thought she was cold and bitter. He probably thought she slept well, while he wondered why she left him.
It's not like he really loved her. Not like he'll ever really miss her. He didn't seem upset when she told him the lie about him breaking up with her over the phone. She hated that she lied to him, but he didn't need her, and he didn't want her.
She had been lucky to get her friend to pretend to love her, make Ben see that she didn't need or want him either. She hoped that made it easier on him, so he wouldn't worry that she was just breaking up with him for his sake, even though that was the truth.
She breathed in shakily as she thought for a moment that maybe Ben did love her. If he did, then it was still easier for him to let her go.
But maybe, she thought, it wasn't. Maybe he needed her, just as she needed him. Maybe he loved her. Longed to be near her. Longed to kiss her again, and hug her. Longed to be by her side forever...
No. She knew she couldn't allow such thoughts to play in her head, or else they might stay there. She knew Ben didn't long to be near her, didn't long to kiss her, didn't long to hug her, didn't long to live by her side forever. He didn't love her. Not like she did.
She would live though. It wasn't the end of the world. She might never fall in love again, but as long as she knew Ben was out there fighting evil, having to give up most of his life to help the universe, she'd always continue fighting too, just through life, not evil. His cause, his life...it would remind her to live on.
