A/N: Guess what: ANOTHER Rune Factory one-shot! This one is Lynette and Mist centric. Although I think the Lynette/Mist couple is adorable, it's strictly platonic here. Based on a quote by Elaine Maxwell. Feedback always appreciated, especially con-crit. Enjoy!
Resolutions
Every day she would shift her position. Change her area, not attract the eyes of the village folk, because staying in one place was a sure-fire way to be found.
It was not that she didn't want to fit in with the villagers; far from it. Witnessing that Earthmate Raguna and the kindness of the villagers proved to Lynette how much better it was to live with the land. Yet in her gut was the gnawing pain of sins committed against these people that kept her shamefully distant.
It was a lovely day, and Lynette found herself gazing out toward the beach. Listening to the hypnotic waves made Lynette smile, closing her eye and letting the sun's rays hit her for who knows how long.
"Beautiful day, isn't it?"
Lynette reflexively jumped and turned, but relaxed slightly at the familiar face. "Mist?"
The blonde girl grinned that infectious grin of hers. "Hello Lynette! What are you doing here, all by yourself?"
"Nothing of importance," Lynette answered stiffly, turning.
"Well, that's pretty obvious!" Mist said, laughing. "But taking breaks is very important, y'know."
"...I suppose."
"But, you do realize it's the first day of the New Year, don't you?" Mist asked.
Was it? Lynette hadn't really noticed. "I must have lost track of time."
"Well, come on then!" Mist said, grabbing and tugging on Lynette's arm. "We've gotta go wish everyone a Happy New Year!"
"W-Wait, Mist--"
"Because New Year's is really important! It's a time when everyone sets new resolutions for themselves, and they change their past selves and work towards their own future. And because of that, they change, and grow. And people will be able to tell. Trust me on that!" the blonde declared.
Lynette was silent for a long time. Then a helpless grin settled onto her face. Mist never was subtle. "What a wonderful holiday," Lynette said. Mist only smiled.
