Katniss

Prim looked up at me as she followed the line of people that headed twords the riping. She was so firghtened. And the worse part is that I'd be lieing if I told her that everything is going to be ok. I had to put my name down 22 times. If my name was sorted, I don't know what I could possibly do to make sure that she could be OK. I could count on Gale to make that happen but he was even more likely to get into the arena then I was.

- Welcome, welcome! – The annoying voice of Effie Trincket pulled me out of my thoughts – The time has come, to select one courageous young man and woman, for the honnor of representing district 12 in the 74th annual hunger games. – She made a breef pause before continueing with her usual capital speech.

She announced the video from the capital with excitement as if everyone was really looking foward to the next massacre. Gale glanced at me mocking the words that we had memorised from all the previous years. I smiled at him. He was really the only person that could make me smile in a time like this.

-And now, as usual, ladies first – Effie's strong capita accent caught my atention, making my smile fade instantaniously. she dove her hand into the bowl and chose a random paper. I could see everyone (including me) catching their breths. –Primrose Everdeen!

I was completely taken by chock. It wasn't possible. It couldn't have happened. Her name was only there once, I made sure of that. My little sister steped away from the crowd, accompanied by two peacekeepers. But she wasn't crying. Despite everything, all she did was fix her dress and walk slowly as if it was all just another bad dream.

I couldn't let her do it. I ran twords her, dodging the two fat peacekeepers I used to sell the hunted animals too. I opened my mouth to scream that I volunteered but something stopped me in the act. Gale pressed one hand in my molth and holded my armas with the other so I couldn' talk or move. I tryed to kick him, bite him, anything, but he just wouldn't let go.

- Well… Where were we? – Effie said, now taking her eyes off the scene and continuing as if nothing was going on – Oh yes! And for our male tribute we've got… - she picked another small piece of paper. – Peeta Mellark!

I remembered him. The son of the baker. A scene rolled in front of my eyes like a flashback. I was hungry, I hadn't eaten for days, and he was supposed to throw the burned breads at the pigs, but when he saw me he threw one at me. even though he knew his mother would yell at him for that he did it for me. and I didn't even know why, or got the chance to thank him for that. And know he was about to get killed, taking my sister along with him.

Tears rolled down my eyes into my cheeks. I felt Gale's hands set me free, as he walked away from me and screamed so that everyone could hear – I volunteer!
