Amy lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling late one night. She can't fall asleep. She's too worried about what may happen. "Pregnant, I can't be pregnant I'm only 16," she says to herself. "My parents would kill me. I mean, they hated me for dating Tommy, but what will they do if I'm carrying his baby?" Amy truly felt that she did love Tommy, but we wasn't sure yet. She hadn't been dating him that long, and hadn't meant for them to go this far. They were just making out on her bed, but one thing led to another and suddenly their clothes were off. Amy started sobbing, and cried herself to sleep.
The next morning Laynie goes with Amy to the drugstore to buy a pregnancy test. Tommy is working.
"Hey Amy, Laynie, howz it going?" he asks.
"Look Tommy just please stay away from me right now. Be lucky if my parents let you ever talk to me again," Amy said.
"Why what's going on?" Tommy asked.
"Look, Tommy, member last week, the big mistake we made?" Amy asked.
"Well I wouldn't exactly call it a mistake, I thought it was great. And I love you Amy," Tommy said.
"Well I might be pregnant ok! So if it wasn't a mistake before it is now!" Amy yelled a little too loudly. A few other customers in the store were staring at them. "What the hell are you looking at?" Amy yelled.
Laynie grabbed Amy's arm. "Amy, its ok, calm down. Come on we'll go to a different store," Laynie said. The two walked out the door, leaving Tommy standing there speechless.
Amy was crying as her and Laynie walked down the sidewalk. Laynie gave her a hug.
"Amy, hun we're gonna get through this. Don't worry it's gonna be ok," Laynie said.
"I think I figured out what it is, why I'm so upset about all of this, why I'm so upset with Tommy," Amy said.
"Well any girl would be Amy, I mean your 16 and your whole future may be changed and different now because of one night between you and Tommy. I mean if you're pregnant you may have to drop out of school…"
"Laynie it's not that. Look it's different than every girl's situation! Every girl didn't have a first boyfriend they loved very much that went into a coma and then died ok!" Amy said.
"Colin, Amy what is wrong with you why are you brining Colin into this?" Laynie asked, confused.
"Because, because Colin was the first boy I ever loved, and…and I thought he would be the one I would loose my virginity to. I mean I love Tommy and all, but things are still not the same as they were with Colin. With Colin, everything was, well perfect. I loved him so much, oh Laynie I loved him so so much," Amy said, sobbing on Laynie's shoulder.
