She was plain. That was Kyoya's first thought of her. And her lip. It was disfigured, a cleft lip. It wasn't an extreme case but it was there. Her lip was slightly raised almost looking as if she had merely spilt her lip. But it was noticeable enough for people to stare.
This is what had gotten Kyoya's attention. She didn't seem to care that people stared at her. She took it in stride, answering questions people asked with no shame. She had come to Ouran High School so she obviously had the money to remove but it was still there.
Day after day Kyoya would watch her in class and at the host club where she went like most girls. After awhile people just stopped asking about it. It was of interest, old news. But not for Kyoya he continued to notice and watch her.
But he was afraid to speak with her. Afraid he might hurt her feelings. This was unusual for the Shadow King to feel this way and was bothered by it. He was grateful when the chance to speak with this odd girl came around.
Her family was attending a business dinner at Kyoya's home. And being the same age He was asked to entertain her while their fathers talked. He was surprised at how easy it was to talk to this girl. He even went as so far as to laugh at one of her jokes.
After that the girl requested Kyoya during Host Club hours. Most of the time it was mainly the two of them where they would talk and laugh. After sometime the two teenagers began to see each other outside of school. Secret form the rest of the club of course.
It was during one of these outings that Kyoya noticed how beautiful she was. Her eyes, cheeks, nose, hair, and even her lip. To him she was just simply beautiful. He loved her laugh and her quick temper. With these knew feelings Kyoya had to think of what they were. Affection? No, this was much stronger and deeper than that.
Though he knew the answer he couldn't bring himself to say it aloud. He did however express this feeling through physical means. Such as holding her hand, playing with her hair, and hugging her. He wanted to kiss her but he was afraid. Kyoya was afraid he might offender by touching her lip. Or maybe he was offending her by not touching it. He had learned that though she didn't seem bothered by it, she was.
He had stopped and pulled the girl off to the side and sat on the bench not speaking in the middle of one of their outings. The silence was comfortable, neither one of them wanting to break it. But Kyoya had to.
He took her head in his hand holding the left side of her face where the cleft was. The young girl seemed surprised by his sudden action but remained still. Kyoya ever so carefully rubbed his thumb over her lip. She flinched but said nothing and let him continue.
Kyoya paused looking for signs of disapproval. When there was none he lowered his lips to hers and kissed her. It was brief but it meant so much more.
Love, he thought. That was what he was feeling with this girl.
