I was going through my old documents and stumbled upon these. I always loved Alfons, despite not loving the movie. And his friendship with Ed was so interesting. I might continue this if enough people want me to.
Blind:
It's hard to believe that even after two years he never once saw how bad Alfons's condition was; but maybe he was never looking.
Grave:
It's odd, he thinks, that the first time he cries since his mother's death is for a boy who's not his brother in a world that's not his own.
Prosthetic:
Edward wasn't sure how Alfons would react when he finally discovered what lay under his false skin. He certainly hadn't expected an ecstatic mechanic begging permission to tear the appendage apart to see how it worked.
Sick:
Alfons never explains just how sick he really is. He tells himself that it's so he doesn't worry Edward, but the truth is he wants to know Edward cares enough to notice.
Guilt:
Alfons feels an overwhelming sense of guilt as he watches the transmutation circle flash above him.
Ignorant:
You don't get it, do you? He's dying and you're too wrapped up in dreams of other worlds to even notice.
End:
Edward never ends his stories with "happily ever after." But Alfons doesn't expect him to.
Wheelchair:
Edward knows he really shouldn't complain; old age is horrible, but it's more than he ever got.
Drunk:
Alfons isn't worried when Edward acquires a taste for beer; after all, it is Germany. He does worry, however, when the older boy comes home barely able to stand.
Bar:
He finds out later, after weeks of helping a drunk Edward home, that the older boy can't even stand the taste of beer.
Addiction:
Alfons is there to help Edward through drunk nights; nights of booze are followed shortly by nights of cigarettes and smoke. When the addictions stop, however, the stories come back full force, more frequently than ever before, and Alfons realizes that Edward can't survive without an addiction, no matter what it is.
