A love to last forever
Part one (Jake)
Jake sat on the bed in his room sobbing quietly. He was alone in the house because his parents were out and so was his brother Tom. He looked at the gun that was resting in his lap and thought about what had happened just a little more than 20 minutes before. It was supposed to be a routine mission and even now he wondered how it could have gone so horribly wrong. They had went down into the Yeerk pool to stop the infestation of Melissa Chapman who was the daughter of one of the highest ranking controllers they knew of other than Jake's brother Tom. Marco and Ax were to go in first to provide a distraction while the rest of us would find Melissa and get her out of there. The mission had gone well and it looked like they were going to pull it off when the unthinkable had happened. A controller fired a Dracon gun in their general direction and by sheer bad luck the beam caught Cassie in the chest and she fell to the ground. I stared in shock and horror and then fled without even checking to see if she was really dead but I knew in my heart that she had to be. I was a coward and I had left my friends to die in that hell of a Yeerk pool. I noticed that I was crying loudly now and the tears were streaming down my face to land on the covers but I just didn't care anymore. I brought the gun up with trembling fingers and pressed it against my temple. I hesitated for a moment and wondered if I was doing the right thing. I thought about what Cassie and I had been through together and I knew that I couldn't live without her.
"I love you Cassie," I whispered as I pulled the trigger.
Part Two (Cassie)
I flew as fast as I could over to Jake's house as I thought about what had just happened only a few minutes ago in the Yeerk pool. I was aware of the fact that I had been shot and the agony of the wound was unbearable and I knew that I was going to die. I had closed my wolf eyes and waited for oblivion to wash over me when I felt strong hands lifting me up and carrying me away from the Yeerk pool. I knew that it was Marco and he was running frantically away from the pool with Rachel, Tobias, and Ax following us. I heard Marco telling me to demorph and with the last of my strength I morphed and as I became more human I felt the pain fade away and then there was no pain at all.
"Where's Jake" I asked Marco.
"He freaked when you got shot and fled before any of us could stop him."
"I have to go to him!" I cried frantically.
"You don't think that Jake would do anything to harm himself do you? Marco asked me and I could see that he was worried about Jake just as much as I was.
"I don't know Marco but I intend to find out." I said and then as quickly as I could I morphed osprey and headed towards Jake's house. I got there in about five minutes and landed behind his house and demorphed in the bushes and opened the back door and to my surprise it opened easily under my touch. I cautiously stepped inside and immediately noticed the utter silence in the house. It was like there was no sign of human life anywhere and with a sinking feeling in my chest I raced up the stairs to his room. The door was closed and there was silence behind it. I opened the door and that's when I saw him. He was lying on the bed and I could see the blood pooling on the sheets from the gaping hole in the side of his head. I felt like I was going to throw up but I forced myself to go to him.
"Jake, Why did you do this to yourself?" I asked him but I already knew the answer. I knew that he couldn't live without me and in my heart I new that I couldn't live without him. I gently pried the gun from his fingers and pressed the barrel, which was sticky with Jake's blood, against my temple.
"I love you Jake." I whispered as I pulled the trigger.
