A/N: Written for Schermionie's "5, 10, 20, 50, 70, 100 fandoms" challenge on the HPFC. Probably a little cliché but I had fun nonetheless.
"Ahiru, have you heard...?" Lillie started. A typical, expected greeting out of the blond girl's mouth. She was the school's self-proclaimed rumor mill, a fact nobody questioned or even dared to dispute. Most people didn't seem to mind. After all, she always knew what went on at school before anyone else did.
"What have I heard? I've heard a lot of things lately, and I don't know what you could be referencing!" Ahiru babbled. A typical response to Lillie's age-old question.
"We have a day off from class today!" Ahiru gasped. Days like this came once in a lifetime. She wasn't even sure what she'd do with the free time. It was all too exciting to think that she didn't have to humiliate herself in front of her entire ballet class. The sun shined brighter to prove that she deserved today off.
"Oh my goodness I'm so excited what are we gonna do there's so many things we could do!" Ahiru started, but was quickly cut off by Lillie.
"I know what we could do," she exclaimed.
"What?" Ahiru asked with baited breath.
"A picnic!"
"...A picnic? That's it? Couldn't we do something more interesting? We could always go on a picnic."
"But this is special because you're going to ask Rue and Mytho and Fakir," Lillie seemed to put extra emphasis on everyone's names. Ahiru's heart raced. Why would Lillie do this to Ahiru?
"Why can't it just be you and me and Pique?" Ahiru asked, desperation obvious in her voice.
"Because I already sent Pique out to find the perfect picnic spot," Lillie said with a huge grin and a sparkle in her eyes.
"What if they say no what would happen then oh my goodness what if they caused our social suicide I don't want to die just yet there are so many things I haven't seen yet...!"
"Ahiru, stop babbling because you'll miss your chance to ask them!" Lillie pushed Ahiru toward the three older students. She blushed furiously, finding herself completely unable to say what she needed to say. Rue, Mytho and Fakir looked at her expectantly for the longest seconds of Ahiru's short life.
"What do you want?" Fakir barked. Ahiru squeaked.
"Lillie and Pique and I are gonna go on a picnic and we thought you'd like to come so you're invited if you're interested but if you're not I totally understand there's so much to do today, since it's so pretty and all…" Ahiru was cut off by Fakir's harsh laugh.
"Fakir, don't be rude," Rue chastised, and then turned to Ahiru with a softer face. "He meant to say that we're busy. Good day, Ahiru, and have fun with your friends." They walked off briskly. Ahiru expected this, but not in such a harsh tone. She sighed. Lillie, as if cued by Ahiru's sigh, came rushing to her side.
"Aww, look at poor, rejected Ahiru! I knew this would happen, but I didn't expect such adorable heartache! Let's find Pique, maybe she found the perfect spot by now…" Such was Ahriu's life, being friends with Lillie.
