Her chest begun to slowly rise with each intake of breath, her small figure laid out upon the hard, wooden floor. A pair of soft, golden eyes fluttered open seemingly unaffected by the desirable temptation of sleep. However, her mind was plagued of disturbing thoughts and endless fears. Over the years she became used to the constant nightmares, almost seen as a second nature to her. In this world, a lot of strange or particularly disturbing thoughts and actions became a second nature. But in this case she might have to make an acceptation. She had become so used to all the bad happenings in her life that they didn't faze her anymore, but this particular case did. And that scared the stone-hearted, young woman more than anything. For years had she learned how to block out everything, she thought if she learned to stop feeling altogether then she would no longer be hurt. But even one tiny instance of affection could tear down her walls in an instance.
"So, since you're pretty much on your own… what's your plan?"
Clementine looked up from her bowl, swallowing the contents in her mouth before shrugging her shoulders. "I'm thinking of moving on."
His expression slightly faltered for a moment until he wiped it off with his usual smirk. "Well a girl like you is always welcome to stay here with us for as long as you want."
"What do you mean by a girl like me?" She asked him amusingly.
"You're what? Seventeen, eighteen years old? And you've just about handled yourself better in that situation than most would. We could definitely use someone like you with us." He gave her a genuine smile only to be matched with a disgruntled expression on her part.
"I'm twenty-two…" She narrowed her eyes at him before putting another spoon full of porridge into her mouth.
"Oh…"
Clementine heaved a large sigh. Nothing could stop her wondering mind now, and closing her eyes trying to sleep only made it relatively worse. After going back and forth on the idea for a moment, she decided to go out and take a walk for a bit. She quietly got up and made her way towards the entrance, carefully maneuvering herself around the several other figures that lay on the floor below her. For a quick second she contemplated whether to tell anyone where she was going, a quiet guilt tugging at her mind. In the end she decided against it, she didn't want to wake anyone up from a long deserved rest. Clementine turned around to walk down the stairs when a hand had placed itself on her shoulder, making her jump.
"Where do ya think you're goin'?" Clementine quickly turned around only to be met with the only friendly face she had learned to love in this short time.
"I was just taking a walk, Kenny…" She answered, shrugging his hand off her shoulder gently. She silently cursed herself for forgetting that Kenny was the only member of her group that wouldn't jump at the chance to sleep. "Well I was anyway… Guess not since you're here, huh?"
He let out a small chuckle. "Only if you plan on comin' back."
Clementine had a look of confusion on her face for a good, solid minute. She absolutely loved Kenny, no doubt about that. However, despite her age he was known to be a little overprotective of her at the best of times. She was almost certain there was no way he would let her wonder around by herself in the wee hours of the morning with walkers plainly surrounding the area. To be fair, most of them cleared out, leaving only a few stragglers behind. Still she couldn't help notice his answer.
"You look like I just ya that your pet hamster died." He laughed heartily to himself.
"Hey leave Mr. Snuggles out of this!" Clementine scolded, however she found it kind of hard to contain her smile. "Sorry, Kenny. It's just… I didn't think you'd be so easy on me this time."
Kenny's smile faltered a bit before he put on a little bit more of a serious tone. "I know I can be a bit… overbearin' sometimes-"
"Sometimes?" Clementine cut him off. He narrowed his eyes at her for a second but continued with what he was saying.
"Look Clem, I haven't been exactly the best person in the world to you lately. Truth is there's no way in God's name I'd let you wander off by yourself. But I trust you to be careful, after all you're not some little girl we found all those years ago." He finished with a small smile playing on his lips, to show his genuine concern for her. Clementine looked a little taken aback by his short speech but grateful nonetheless.
"Thanks Kenny. I-I appreciate that." She said. "However, I think it was actually Lee who found me all those years ago." She chuckled.
"Oh really? So you're sure we both didn't find ya runnin' off with some nutjobs down in Macon with five husbands and insisted on calling yourself Cloud?" He laughed.
"Ha ha, very funny Kenny." She rolled her eyes at him.
"Guess I might be getting' a little old, keep losin' my memory."
Kenny gave her a tiny nod of his head before letting her go off, watching her retreating form go down the stairs. Once he couldn't see her anymore he turned around and began to head back inside when his face collided into someone else's. She let out a hiss and began to rub her nose from the collision, making sure to give Kenny a glare. For a moment Kenny thought about stopping her, or at least asking her where she was going but her words cut him off from his thoughts.
"Watch where you're going." She muttered under her breath before walking past him.
It was her words that drove him to remember that Jane was far from Clementine. In short, meaning that he could care less where she went or if she even ever came back. With that said, Kenny walked back into the Museum. Making sure to call her a 'bitch' just loud enough for her to hear on his way. Hearing this Jane rightfully stuck up her middle finger in his direction, but doubt he saw it for he was already inside at this point.
Jane began to make her way down the stairs and outside. She could've swore she saw Clementine walking down the trail, however she just ignored it and continued on her way. The last thing she decided she needed was an argument before she left. She was just about on her way until she was stopped by a loud scream.
