WadowskySimmons

"Because WadowskySimmons doesn't roll trippingly off the tongue." How FitzSimmons came to be.

AN: So I was going through my laptop and discovered this short fic I wrote about 4 years ago. It's not really relevant anymore but I figured why not. For some reason I really like the idea that FitzSimmons is FitzSimmons because someone thought their name was cool. Also I don't own MARVEL or AGENTS of SHIELD or I would be living in a much nicer house.

As the sun reflected off the clouds passing underneath the BUS Fitz strolled into the dining area where everyone else had already sat down for breakfast.

Oh, Fitz, Thank you." Jemma said her face lighting up as she smiled up at him.

"That's so sweet. What's the occasion?"

"Seven years ago today Fitz and I were teamed up together for the first time at the academy." As she studied the new book Fitz had given her.

"Wow. 7 years. How did you two meet anyway?"

Oh it's actually quite interesting. During orientation you're put through a series of psychological exams and personality assessments. Based on those results you are given a compatability score with the various scientists working in fields that intersect with yours. A minimum score to be a team is a 65, with most teams scoring between a 75 and 80.

"Sounds interesting" Skye said, fighting the urge to roll her eyes. "So what did you guys get like a 96?"

"95 actually. It's the highest compatability score any pair has ever gotten." She said the pride evident in her voice as she and Fitz shared a smile.

"Second highest." Coulson said, not looking up from his reports.

"What?" What she and Fitz asked both turning to look at Coulson unsure they had heard him correctly.

"Second highest score." He repeated, still studying the reports in front of him.

"But…"Jemma asked confused. "I was told I had gotten the highest compatability score in SHIELD history."

"You did. Just not with Fitz." He said, finally looking up at the pair of scientists in front of him.

"Well who the bloody hell did she score higher with?" asked a somewhat indignant Fitz.

"Um, an engineer named Wadowsky I believe."

"Michael?!" Jemma exclaimed a slight frown forming on her face.

"Yeah, you two got a 96."

"Wait, if she and I didn't get the highest score than why are we working together?" Fitz asked as he fiddled with his monkey tie.

"Because WadowskySimmons doesn't roll trippingly off the tongue." Coulson deadpanned sipping his coffee.

"You're joking." Jemma said, a hopeful smile playing across her lips.

"No. I was actually on the committee at the time. We were creating the teams for the research department and Simmons and Wadowsky scored a 96. But since you and Simmons scored a 95 we decided to place the two of you together. I think it was Agent Hill's idea." He said with a slight nod. "She just really liked the way your names sounded together."
