Once, a few days after the monster attack on NYC, I was walking on a beach in my home off of Block Island. I was just watching the sea, when I saw a bulge in the water's surface… Suddenly, I saw the monster that attacked NYC rise up out of the water! "AGGGGH!" I screamed, as it looked at me, and I run, but it caught up to me and crouched down, and rumbled as if it was in pain. "Grrrr…" Then I noticed that it had a large piece of shrapnel embedded in its arm…
"Ow, that must hurt." I said, and I removed the shrapnel, causing it to roar in pain. I swear I jumped a mile in the air. Then it looked it me… There was something intelligent in those large black eyes. It growled softly, as if it was saying "Thank you." Then, I heard a growl from it's stomach. "Aw, crap, it's gonna eat me…" I thought, but it had eaten a person before, and it spat him out… It didn't like the taste of human. "Well, I don't know what monsters eat, so, bye." However, it followed me when I walked away. I looked behind me, and it looked behind itself. Then, I toke a step, and it took a step. Then I jumped, and it jumped, causing the ground to shake and a bunch of seagulls to fly off, which it caught in the air with one of it's hands. Then, I told it to stay hidden underwater until I came back with food.
When I got home, I was shocked by what I saw on the news. "Monster that devastated NYC killed!" I saw the carcass of the monster onboard a barge near NYC. Terrified, I checked to see if my new best friend was there… He was. I told him what happened, and he screeched. Suddenly, I understood why he attacked NYC; he was confused, ridden with parasites, and separated from his mother, who was just killed. "There, there, big guy…" I said, and he bent down, and "purred," in a way. I told him he could stay with me, and I gave him a name… Grendel, after the monster from Beowulf. He kept following me as I walked back to my house, and when my parents saw him, they gasped. "Well, you always said I needed a pet."
