Moeka had the place under lockdown. Caroline and Mayuri stood in shock.
"Give us the time machine, Okabe. Also, you, Kurisu, and Itaru, come with us back to the lab."
"What about Mayuri…?" I looked over, and saw her crying. The only time I've seen her cry is when her grandmother died.
"We don't need her." Moeka raised the Glock in her hand and pointed it at Mayuri.
No. This can't happen. Not yet.
Her finger curled around the trigger, and right as she contracted, I see a huge body fly across the room. The bullet hits it instead of Mayuri, and the body falls to the floor.
Daru.
"Daru!" I run over to see a huge bullet hole in the left part of his neck. He's already dead. "Assistant!"
Kurisu rushes over to the time machine and types a few letters before Moeka yells at her. "Stop, or I'll shoot!" Not wanting to lose another lab member, I take the smoke grenade from the table and throw it at the ground. It's odd, though. I traveled from another world line, but Daru doesn't die in the last one. Did something different happen without me having to do anything?
Either way, I'm at the time machine. My assistant has a troubled look on her face.
"It's malfunctioning."
What's going on?
Kurisu suddenly gets shot through the smoke, and falls over.
I can't lose two of my lab members again. If it's not working, then I'll make it work. I put on the headphones, and press the button to time leap. After it doesn't work, I start spamming it. I can't die here. I can't let anyone die anymore.
My arm suddenly gets shot, and I'm bleeding all over the desk before I know it. I can't take it. It's all over. What happened to the other world lines? Where is Steins Gate? Will we reach it?
The loud scream that comes out of my mouth sounds terrible. It has all my emotion, plus my pain. I don't care about anything anymore. What will happen to Mayuri?
A static feeling overtakes me. I assume that I'm about to die. All of the muscles in my body collapse, and I'm on the floor. The static is getting more intense.
And we're back in the lab together. Mayuri is crying, Kurisu is breathing in short bursts, and Daru is staring at the floor. I find myself holding my arm. We all look around at each other. I guess by how we were acting; we realize that we all feel like we were just in the other world line. This didn't happen the last time, did it?
"Um," says Kurisu. "Did we just…?"
"We just switched world lines."
How did all of them remember everything? Maybe they have the Reading Steiners ability….
"Uh, forget me jumping in front of Mayuri…" Daru looks at the ground. He has a sad look that barely ever shows up. I wonder if he's alright...
"Well, we need to figure out what just happened," Kurisu started talking. "And, with the D-mails; we lost our memory, didn't we? Then what is this all about?"
