Death Wish

Summary: He moved forward, his face so emotionless that he could've been a ghost, a dead body, an unoccupied soul, even a patronus. But all Severus saw were those bright, green, brilliant eyes. Lily's eyes.

death is but the next great adventure…

Severus Snape knew that he was going to die that night long before it happened. Seeing Lucius coming towards him with a grimly hopeless expression was all he needed.

"The Dark Lord calls. Shrieking Shack." And that was it. That was all Lucius said, portraying nothing else.

A few minutes later, his death had been officially confirmed.

Yet, why was he surprised when Voldemort set Nagini on him? His eyes widened in horror as the snake made its way towards him. The snake that Voldemort protected more than his most devoted followers combined.

"I regret it," he spat. No remorse shown on his face. Severus felt hatred rise in his guts, blood surrounding him. The snake…

when Lord Voldemort keeps his snake safe beside him, under magical protection, then, I think, it will be safe to tell Harry…

The boy would come. He knew it. Lily's son would come.

One moment of pondering and the next thing, maybe even the last thing, he knew was pain. Pain more than imaginable. Pain beyond anything else. Pain such that he no longer cared whether or not Lily's son got the message, he no longer cared about Voldemort or the battle, he wouldn't even have cared if Lily came alive towards him that moment. The only problem was that he did care.

you care so much you feel you'll bleed to death with the pain of it…

And he would've. That night, he would've. For Lily.

He struggled to breath. The boy would come. As much as he wanted to let go, to stop, he breathed. And sure enough, the movement of the crate the boy had hid behind was audible.

And there he was. Tossing the cloak off him, Granger stopping him, Weasley hissing at him, it all meant nothing as the boy moved towards him, his face so expressionless that he could've been a ghost, a dead body, a disembodied soul, even a patronus.

The figure crouching beside him was not the boy whose face he had loathed seeing for years. He wasn't one of the worst potion students of the century, or the best Defense against the Dark Arts student. He was Lily's son, and the only one who could avenge the death of her.

even after all these years…

The doe flew out the window once again as Potter hovered above him. Severus found his voice, or what was left of it, and the memory.

"Take…it…Take…it…" he felt the memory being drained of him and hardly saw Granger conjure a flask, his vision blurred and he wasn't sure if the doe was really there or one of the last figments of his imagination.

"Look…at…me…"

Green eyes found black and the last thing Severus Snape saw were eyes. Bright green brilliant eyes, eyes that he could lose himself in. Lily's eyes. And then…nothing.

Severus…

A/N: Shorter then I hoped, but I guess I'm satisfied. Snape became one of my favorite characters after the chapter The Prince's Tale. Anyway, how about reviewing and telling me what you think?
