Chapter One

Clary's POV

"NO! There's no way I am going back there! That's where I almost DIED!" I started pacing back and forth through the library. This could not be happening. This could not be happening.

"Honey, calm down. We will only be there for a few weeks. We won't even be in Brooklyn, we'll be in Manhattan. It's all going to be okay," Jia comforted. She seemed so calm, but I didn't understand how. I was freaking out.

"Yeah. It'll be okay, Clary," Aline said, "There are people there around our age too, so maybe that'll get your mind off of it."

"Oh, yes. Because Brooklyn and Manhattan are SO different. And the assortment of new people will TOTALLY help the situation," she said sarcastically, "I'm sure meeting YOUR cousins who live in MANHATTAN, not Brooklyn is going to be better than Sebastian Morgenstern rising from the dead."

They all gasped, probably shocked by my bluntness. You'd think they'd be used to it after seven years.

"Clarissa Adele Fairchild! YOU ARE GOING AND THAT IS FINAL! You will meet YOUR cousins and deal with it. I know had a hard life there, but you are 18 years old and you need to come to terms with those memories. Now is the perfect time to do that. You never know. Maybe you'll come to LIKE New York."

With that, Jia left the room, Patrick trailing behind her. Aline stayed for a moment, looking me over, but then finally walked out too. I stayed in the library, still reeling from our conversation. They just couldn't understand. They didn't understand what had happened there. I know I'm 18, but those beatings were too strong to forget. I don't know if I could ever handle being in New York again.
