Helga sighs. She never meant to fall in love, especially not with a co-worker. Especially not with one Salazar Slytherin. To her, he had always been so unapproachable; she never thought she'd have a chance. Then again, that made him a safe crush. If she knew it was a surefire rejection, there would be no reason for her to take a chance on love, no reason to step out of her comfort zone and tell him that she wanted him in every way that mattered.
So instead, she decided to watch him silently from the shadows, to want him silently. That's why she was the first one to figure it out when Salazar fell in love.
Helga's heart still hurts at the mere thought of Salazar giving his affections to someone other than her. He did, though.
Helga watched as Salazar feel in love with none other than Godric Gryffindor, his biggest rival.
Salazar and Godric were always competing with each other. If Salazar did one thing, Godric had to do it better, and vice versa. They had many arguments about their different values and beliefs. While Godric was all for letting every witch and wizard into Hogwarts, Salazar believed in just letting in Pure-bloods and the best of the half-bloods. He thought Muggle-borns shouldn't even be considered for entry because he feared they'd tell Muggle about witchcraft and wizardry.
They were opposites, like night and day.
That's why when Helga realized they had fallen in love, she almost didn't believe it.
And if she hadn't walked into one of the greenhouses and found them kissing, she might have forever been in denial.
As it is, Helga watches as they love each other. She watches as they do their best to hide their relationship, afraid of what everyone will say.
Helga wishes Salazar would look at her the way he looks at Godric. She knows that will never happen, though. So, she just her best in helping them protect their secret. It's all she can do.
