'He should be mad," he thought. Hell he was mad. Crazy mad not angry mad. And not mad at her… or him. But mad with himself. It was after all his own damn fault that he was here alone and she was here with him. He watched as they moved as one on the dance floor: a striking contrast of light and dark; a perfect compliment to each other. Hell, they should thank him as they would have never gotten together if he wasn't such a jerk.
He had fallen in love with her before they had even met. Her computer skills were the best he had ever seen and he was way beyond impressed. The first time he had seen her in the flesh he couldn't take his eyes off of her and when she had spoken to him he was so tongue tied that he could barely get his own name out. She was beautiful, intelligent, sassy, talented and so many other things that he couldn't put a name to.
They had both acted like giddy teenagers for the first month or so. But things changed the second night that he had shown up at her door. David Rossi. The man's name put a chill down his spine and yet somehow he had managed to get up the nerve to have a talk to him; man to man.
Kevin snorted. There was no way he could ever be equal to David Rossi no matter how hard he tried. He had put on a brave front, girded his loins and all that but in the end he knew the older man was just humoring him. He should have trusted Pen but he had been a jealous fool and now he was paying the price.
She looked happy. So did he. She had been the best thing in his life but he had gotten scared and ruined his only real chance at happiness.
"Love, they say, is for the lucky and the brave." he murmured to himself. He turned away from the happy couple and walked out the door.
