Worst fears

This topic came up suddenly while Sanzo-ikkou rested in an inn.

Unfortunately there was only one room left in the inn so the men had to share the remaining one...together. (Scary huh?)But all in all even Sanzo had to admit it wasn't that bad.

Hakkai was so involved in a book that he had been unresponsive for several hours, Goyjo was brushing up on his poker skills and Goku was having one of his weird contemplating moments where he would stay quiet for hours on end just thinking about things. Sanzo was slightly worried for Goku was always a different person when he was like that, although he hid behind a newspaper pretending not to care.

But every once in awhile he found himself peeking out from behind it to see if the young teen had moved at all, each and every time he was still in the same position, sitting backwards in the desk chair and facing the moonlight sky.

His eyes were glazed over from deep thought.

The group sat in silence for a few more moments before Goku cleared his throat and walked over to Hakkai.

"Uhh Hakkai, can I ask you something?" He ventured.

Hakkai looked up from his book, slightly annoyed that he had been torned away from his book, but not wanting to hurt the boy's feelings.

"Yes."Hakkai replied.

"What's your worst fear?" Goku asked.

"Um ..." Hakkai paused before answering the slightly personal question. "Daggers." He said quietly, remembering the night he lost Kanan before quickly getting back to his book.

Goku drooped his head and mumbled sorry to the green eyed man.

The he walked over to Goyjo who knew what was coming and answered before the boy could ask. "Child abuse." He said quickly thinking about his child hood.

Goku nodded and turned around to ask Sanzo but, the priest already knew it was his turn and instead asked Goku what his worst fear was.

Goku suddenly remembered being stuck in the cave and replied, "Being alone." in such a hateful tone that it made the others look toward him.

Goku turned to ask Sanzo in then but, found that he had slipped away.

Goku's eyes turned dark and he said to no one in particular, "I will never be alone again." before walking to the porch outside their room to find Sanzo looking at the last bits of moonlight being covered up by clouds.

"My worst fear is letting someone get close to me; ya know facing a fear destroys it." Sanzo said not facing the teen.

He reached out and pulled Goku so he was standing beside him.

Goku was slightly confused but, soon realized the meaning of Sanzo's words then he gave Sanzo a grin.

That night all four men decided to never bring the past up to face them again. It was meant to leave behind...
