This was it. This was the day Blaine had been waiting for ever since his boyfriend got into NYADA. He sat on his bed staring at the letter. He took a deep breath and picked it up, hands trembling. Blaine clumsily opened the envelope and started to read.

Oh no.

He read it again. This couldn't be happening.

I am sorry to inform you that…

Blaine gasped. He hadn't got in. He didn't realise he was crying until a tear smudged the neat font on the page.

After a few minutes of bawling his eyes out Blaine forced himself to calm down; this was not a disaster. He hadn't choked during his audition like Rachel – he'd just not been good enough. He pushed that painful thought away and tried to focus on the positives. There were other universities in New York. There had to be.

The next day was difficult to say the least. He numbly considered his other options and tried to look like he was happy. However his mind was still thinking of his Skype conversation with Kurt last night. He'd tried to avoid the topic of the acceptance letter but Kurt had a good memory. Blaine had lied to his boyfriend's face. He just couldn't tell him.

When he drifted into Glee it took him a few minutes to realise everyone was looking at him. He raised an eyebrow.

"What?"

"Are you okay Blaine?" asked Marley.

The kid was fairly new to the Glee club but Blaine was good friends with her. It was hard not to be.

"I'm fine."

Tina exploded.

"No you are not! This is an intervention Blaine so tell us what's wrong!"

Whilst Rory tried to calm her down Mr Schue stepped in to defuse the situation.

"I think what Tina means is that you've been distant today Blaine."

The teacher had seen him in the corridors and understood why his friends were so concerned.

Blaine decided there was no point in beating about the bush.

"I'm not going to NYADA." There were gasps all around the room. Everyone knew how much the university meant to Blaine. "I got my letter yesterday."

"Does Kurt know?" asked Marley.

"How am I supposed to tell him?"

"He's not going to love you any less if you don't get in."

Blaine put his head in his hands.

"I know there are plenty of other places in New York, I just really wanted to get into that one. I'm sorry, I should go."

He stood. The tears fell freely now. He lowered his head but then felt someone's arms embracing him. Blaine looked up and found that he was victim to a crushing group hug. Mr Schue looked on with a small smile. Blaine laughed slightly. After a few minutes everyone returned to their seats.

"You should tell Kurt." said Marley.

Blaine nodded and left.
