Riku's Angel
By AnimeDutchess
A.N.: This is for my friend Maggie. She says I don't write about things that interest her anymore, and, well...I wanted to prover her wrong. It just randomly...came to me. like a lot of my other KH oneshots. She'll probably get pissed at me for posting it, though; she can see through me like I was plastic wrap. Anyway, Maggie, i hope you enjoy it, and I hope everyone else digs it, too.
Disclaimer: I don't own anything, nor do I have the money to fund a lawsuit. I'm going to college next year, AND Japan in the summer, so...I need every cent I can get, guys. Have pity on me!
She was very beautiful; Riku had to do a double take when he first saw her. Surely, no earthly being could have a face like that, with eyes that seemed to peer deep into your soul, echoing a cry out to whoever happened to gaze within them.
She was very strong; Riku found that out the hard way, when he asked her out with a smile that oozed arrogance. Her eye had twitched, and before he knew it, he was lying on the ground with a fresh black eye and a bloody nose. He didn't quite understand why she did that in the first place.
She was very intelligent; Riku's teacher had paired them for a book report one day. Riku had been in paradise, hearing her talk about literary giants and classics, how this symbolized that, how one influenced the other, all through gritted teeth, for she made it no secret that she disliked him. Her sheer knowledge of the subject was amazing, and the two of them had earned an easy 100 percent.
She was very talented; Riku was blown away when he heard her sing. That voice, which talked so calmly and evenly, could rise and fall to levels he never imagined. It had a waverly quality, but that only made the song richer and dreamlike. He was sure that this girl was not from any world he had ever seen, even from his place in the shadows, that time that seemed so far away now...
She was very fiery; Riku had never seen anyone curse out Kairi like that before. He wasn't even sure what his female friend had done, but whatever it was, it pissed his angel (that's what he was calling her) off immensly. The words were as sharp as her tongue, hot and filled with anger, the rage building in her eyes, and Riku thought that she couldn't be more beautiful than at that moment...
Until he saw her fall, saw her shatter.
She had broken down in the middle of class one day. Riku took her out of class at the request of the teacher. They stood in the hall as she cried into his shoulder, the salty tears staining his only good school shirt, which she clutched to the front of, her body shaky, somewhat jerky. He embraced her the entire time, arms gently around her fragile body. She was hiccuping as she muttered,
"She's dead...God, she killed herself...my friend..."
The next day, she was all smiles, not a flaw in the mask was present as she went about her daily life; Riku was stunned. He approached her after class, tried to ask what had happened. Instead she grinned and asked if he wanted to hang out at lunch.
She was sick; Riku hadn't expected that. At lunch she told him every flaw she had, right down to the last minute before she had entered the classroom that day. He listned, his mouth hanging open slightly, but something in his heart told him that it was all okay. He told her that he didn't care what she'd done, what was wrong with her, that he would always be there for her. She smiled and hugged him, saying,
"You're rather foolish."
