Ok, so this isn't really a fan fiction, it's just a story. BUT, it is somewhat true. Creepy huh? I hope you like it!

Chapter 1: Present

"You know I see ghosts," Vanessa told me one morning, "It's strange really…"

"Uh huh, and I can talk to the Devil," I joked, "Oh, what was that? Ok, I'll tell her. He says you have gone clinically insane."

Vanessa just rolled her eyes at me. "Mary, I'm serious."

"And I am too. The evil spirits of the underworld think you're nuts."

Vanessa looked at me disapprovingly.

"Why are you even telling me this Vanessa? I thought we were talking about Spring Break."

"We were," She agreed, "But Joe started going around asking if we thought the ghosts in her comic books were scary."

I rolled my eyes, Joe. And yes, you read the previous line right, Joe is a girl. No, that's not her real name. No one knows her real name. At the beginning of the year, before the teacher calls her name in role, she'll interrupt and say, "I go by Joe."

Joe is what people would describe as a nerd or a geek. She reads comic books, has glasses, the whole she–bang. But she's not really a nerd, that's just what she wants you to think.

Joe Setzer is a U–SIT. Yes, I know that says "you sit." It stands for undercover–spy in training. She's a third degree black belt in karate and carries a weapon of some sort with her everywhere. And I mean everywhere. Last year at my pool party, she brought a tazer in the water. It's good my inner tube exploded, or someone would've gotten hurt. And when I asked her later why she didn't get shocked, she said, "I'm wearing anti–electrical underpants, and my swimsuit is bullet–proof."

I never asked her about her abnormalities again.

"So you really see ghosts huh?" I asked sarcastically.

"MARY! VANESSA!"

We turned our heads to see none other than Joe. She was running towards us, her blonde hair being blown by the wind to reveal the blue streaks in the undermost layers. In her hand, another comic book.

"Ok, so Julia says this is cute." Joe flipped to a page marked by an orange sticky note.

"Here," Joe said, pointing to a…downright scary picture. A little girl was standing on the ceiling, sucking on a knife. Blood dripped down from her mouth and began to pool on the floor below.

"It's not scary," Vanessa said nonchalantly.

"But defiantly creepy," a voice said behind me.

Vanessa, Joe, and I whirled around, but no one was there.

Well, according to me no one was there.

Vanessa stared at the empty spot between the lunch tables. Then all of a sudden, she clamored in her backpack looking for something.

She pulled out a necklace. Just a simple necklace, a circular jade stone with a hole in the middle, tied onto a red string.

She closed her eyes and clutched onto the stone, murmuring things, over and over. What things was she murmuring?

The voice hissed with annoyance, "I'll be back Present."

Well that was BEYOND disturbing.

"D–d–did you hear that Joe?" I asked nervously.

"Nooo," she replied calmly and hesitantly, "But I saw that."

Vanessa sat there, just like a stone, her eyes unblinking and unmoving. Her grip like a vice on the necklace.

"Vanessa, Vanessa… VANESSA!" Joe shouted in her ear.

No response.

I tugged on the jade necklace a bit, that snapped her out of it.

She stared at the two of us, me and Joe.

"We need to leave, now"

End. Like it? Yeah, it's not really based off anything… just my normal crazzzzzzay life! Course this never happened, but my friend "Vanessa" does see ghosts.

I'm serious.
