Magoichi pointed the rifle at his once dear friend, Hideyoshi. "I'm the one who has to take responsibility here" He said grimly.
"Stop, Magoichi, please! I-I" Hideyoshi stammered.
"It's no use," He put his finger on the trigger, hair swaying slightly as he turned his head to look at Hideyoshi with eyes filled with sadness, with regret, "I'm dead inside." His voice softened at the end, as if he were trying to say this to himself, as if it were a secret just for himself.
Hideyoshi closed his eyes, expecting whatever would come to be quick and painless, and he only tensed up when he heard the click of the trigger...but...he was still alive. He opened an eye to make sure he wasn't bleeding.
The rifle was on the ground, sitting at Magoichi's feet. "But I can't do it," He turned his back to Hideyoshi, his body shaking slightly, "I can't protect my village, and I can't even take responsibility for it."
Hideyoshi was known to be foolish, but even he knew that it was obvious to tell when someone was crying.
"Magoichi?" He whispered, daring not to go near the whimpering man who, at the moment, he could not trust.
"Hideyoshi, you are my friend, but you're also my enemy. I don't want to have to kill you...so...p-please, just leave." Each word came between outbursts of sobs.
"Magoichi..."
Magoichi turned around, eyes narrowed because his vision was blurry, red with both anger and sadness in the face. "I said just leave!" He roared. He used his sleeve to rub his eyes, which only irritated his skin, making his eyes red. "Please." He whispered.
Hideyoshi took a cautious step. Then another. Then another, until he was only a matter of inches away from his friend. He put a concerned, but caring hand on his shoulder, still slightly cautious.
"Magoichi. I'm sorry."
"I know you are, Hideyoshi." He mumbled.
Hideyoshi went into instant handshake formation. "C'mon. Prove to me we're still friends."
Magoichi didn't smile, but he complied to the handshake, he did the handshake as he always did, in the middle of a burial ground for the peasants that lost their lives that day.
Then, they turned their separate ways, ready to meet each other again, whether it was a friendly meeting, or face-to-face in combat, but both of them thought one thing,
I can't wait to see you again, my friend.
A/N:
It's short...but I'm really happy about how it is. I'm a MagoichixHideyoshi fan, but this came out more of a friendship fic. :P But I still can't get over how short it is. Haha.
