A puzzle sat in the corner of the room, discarded by the one who had been working on it just minutes before. In the center of the blank design was a hole, small, yet very defined. It was incomplete without the missing piece, an imperfection.
Fingers entwined with his white hair, Near lifted the green box that once held the scattered pieces, shaking it in the hopes that the missing piece would fall to the carpet. One thousand pieces the box boasted. No, he thought wryly, there are only 999.
"Heya big head, did ya lose something?"
Near didn't look up, he didn't have to. He had heard the voice many times, the all too familiar sneer of his rival, one of the only people who bothered to speak with him.
The blonde walked over, kneeling in between the white puzzle and the white-haired boy. His mouth was latched onto a chocolate bar.
"Hey Near, ya didn't finish it but it has a solution, so that means ya couldn't solve it." The younger boy didn't respond, instead searching the carpet around him.
"I doubt you could solve it Mello." He replied finally. Mello smirked, crawling closer to the incomplete puzzle. Now grinning wildly, he opened his hand, revealing the missing piece. Triumph etched on his face, Mello placed the piece into its slot, completing the puzzle. "Look Near, I finished it." He leered.
"That may be true-" Near acknowledged. "-but you didn't solve it. I did most of the work, you merely put one piece down."
"What? I did solve it! Didn't I solve it Linda?" Mello insisted, his face becoming increasingly red.
Linda blushed slightly, walking over to the two. "I think you both solved it… together."
Haha! FuumaKonan is gonna yell at me.
This is supposed to be a MelloNear fic but as a friend pointed out to me, it's not very shipping-ish so I might make this a chapter fic.
My decision depends on you guys.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed this, I wasn't really in character but...
