Main A/N at the bottom… Song for this fic was going to be Happy by The Daylights but it morphed into something else entirely. So listen to whatever you feel like! I may write something else for Happy later…

The boy sighed almost imperceptibly and dropped the phone back onto the bedspread, leaning into the headboard with eyes closed. Any outsider would have looked at the scene before him and shrugged it off as that of a typical teenage boy waiting for a call, perhaps from a girlfriend. And indeed, Alex Petrov was awaiting a phone call. The only difference was that he knew the call was not going to come. There was no reason for her to call. She was safely at home, probably eating dinner right now, chatting about her day with her mother. He could see it now, the two of them laughing over pasta or Chinese and describing some inane moment of their afternoon.
He was surprised at how much he wanted that.
No need to worry; Jasmine was on duty tonight, his night off, no doubt comfortably perched on the rooftop of the house across the street. Giving the young Mai some privacy while still remaining within earshot if something were to go terribly wrong.
No, she wasn't going to call.
He didn't know why he was sitting here like an idiot in a daytime soap, flipping his phone around aimlessly between his fingertips. He wasn't exactly an avid conversationalist. Pretty much the only messages in his inbox were work-related, reminders from Jasmine, scoldings from Valentina. But he itched to be in motion, was growing restless. He couldn't stay still.
It was one thing to lie still on the rough shingles of her roof, because then he was never idle. Always listening, smiling, laughing. Or, conversely, frowning, glaring, pacing. Always in motion, multitasking. Now, with nothing to do but wait for the morning, Alek was slowly going insane.
He tries to tell himself he's just checking the time. All the clocks in the apartment are still screwed up from the power outage two days ago. Jasmine's a compulsive watch-checker and Valentina's in Brazil, so naturally, no one has bothered to reset them. So the phone has become his only method of marking the passage of hours. Of course that's why he's looking. Obviously.
He's in denial.
He also tells himself he's only got the window open because Jasmine likes the heat turned up to near-tropical temperatures, and he'd be feverish without the fresh air. It has nothing to do with making the quickest exit possible when- no, if- he does get that phone call. Not that he's waiting for it or anything.

And daylight is slow in coming.
A/N
Hey guys! Hope you enjoyed it. Kudos to anyone who caught the reference to another of my NLOCK fics… we love power outages…
Anyone else super freaked out by the finale? Because I'm pretty sure my parents thought little sis and I were insane… crying and shouting at the television for the last 10 minutes is totally normal right? Right? I may write something regarding 1x10 later on… we'll see. PM me with requests or ideas if you like!
Anyways, remember to review. There's this awesome little button down there… Press it!
