DM Edith & The Sandcastle Competition
The Gru family [including the minions] was on holiday by the sea. It was only their first day resting on the sandy yellow beach, but Edith was board. She wanted to play while all her family ever did was doze non stop. It was all right for some, she thought. Edith kicked her toes around in the sand sighing loudly.
What could she do? Just then Gru stretched and yawned and opened his eyes. ''Oh look at dat Edith'' he said pointing ''Dere's a sandcastle competition being held right here on this very beach!''.
Edith's eyes lit up. Maybe she could find something on the beach to do after all. The minions also wanted to join in as well. ''Eet's tomorrow'' Gru said ''so I would suggest you all get off to an very early start tomorrow morning''.
That evening as Edith dropped scraps of food down from the table for Kyle to eat, she wondered what sort of shape to make her sandcastle, one that would be good enough to win first prize. It just had to!
That night as Edith snuggled up in her holiday bed, she couldn't help wishing that it was morning already because she didn't want the minions to beat her at winning the competition.
As the sun dawned bright, Edith yawned, stretched and heaved her heavy bones out of bed determined to get a head start. As she ate her breakfast, Edith wondered what to make out of a sandcastle.
The sky was dark, grey and misty outside. While the minions decided to make sandcastles of their own, Edith decided to make a big ninja cat. When they had finished, it began to rain quite heavily. Edith bravely put up an umbrella that Gru had brought with them and set it over herself and her sandcastle.
She watched as the rain drops pelted the sandcastles of the minions causing them to sag. Edith smiled to herself even though she was feeling a bit chilly. Only her sandcastle stayed protected from the downpour because she had the umbrella up.
When the rain stopped, it was time for judging to see what sandcastle was the best. The rain had spoiled nearly all the sandcastles, so there wasn't really anything left to judge. That is until Edith showed off her masterpiece.
She told the judges that it was a ninja cat. ''Well then young lady'' the judge said ''As your sandcastle is the only one not to have been ruined by the rain, I declare your ninja cat sandcastle the winner''.
She handed Edith a basket full of chocolate, sweets, toffee apples and other seaside goodies. Edith noticed that the minions were fighting and blaming each other for their ruined sandcastles. But Edith didn't care. She had won fair and square for protecting her sandcastle.
The End
