(Very) short Huntingbird. Enjoy x
'Hunter, what are you doing up?' Bobbi padded into the kitchen to find her ex-husband rifling through the freezer. It was 1 in the morning and they were part of tomorrow's tactical team in the next step in the search for Malik and rescuing all the inhumans he'd taken from the .
'Bingo!' the mercenary exclaimed as he held up a giant sized tub of stracciatella ice cream before sitting down at the kitchen island, peeling back the lid and digging in.
'Want a bowl for that?' Bobbi raised an eyebrow.
'Oh, sorry.' Hunter said, his mouth full of ice cream. He leaned hopped off his stool and fished a spoon out of the drawer by the sink, throwing it at Bobbi. She caught the spoon, sighed and sat down opposite him.
'We're meant to be heading out on another major mission tomorrow but you were craving ice cream so here we are sitting in the kitchen, having ice cream at 1am. Is this really necessary?'
'It's not just girls who are nervous eaters you know. Men eat their feelings too!' Hunter replied before spooning more ice cream into his mouth.
'What are you nervous about?'
'Us going up against Malik; you, me, Daisy, Fitz, even Coulson. Maveth was a near miss and we're still recovering.'
'It'll be fine, Hunter. What's the worst that could happen?' Bobbi tried to reason, taking a scoop of ice cream at the same time.
'Well for one thing, what if Ward didn't die?'
'Hunter, Coulson crushed his ribcage. He stopped breathing. He wouldn't have left the job half finished, you know that.'
'Yeah but that dicker always has some way of coming back, I swear.'
'Well this time he won't.'
'I s'pose you're right.' Hunter sighed.
'That's not the only thing that's bothering you is it?'
'What makes you say that?' the Brit muttered into the tub.
'Talk to me, Hunter.' Bobbi put down her spoon and reached for Hunter's hand.
'I just…' Hunter struggled to find words, 'I guess… I…'
'Lance, what is it?' Bobbi pressed gently.
'Bob, will you marry me, again?'
'Hunter we've been over this.'
'I know, and every time you've never given me an answer. I know we're messy but we just work alright. No matter what, we always seem to bounce back. Every time.'
'Hunter, you know it's a bad idea.'
'No, I think it's a very good idea. It always has been. Don't you want that? What Clint has?'
'What Clint has is dangerous in our line of work and you know it.'
'Yeah but his kids have the best godmother in the world.'
'Don't tell Natasha that.'
'Bob, that's besides the point. This is about us.'
'Hunter, the more attached we are, the more likely it'll be that one of us does something stupid.'
'Nothing I wouldn't do anyway, Bob.'
'But…' Bobbi really didn't have any more excuses except her fear that he'd walk off again and they'd be on bad terms, maybe this time for good.
'But what?'
'Honestly, I…' Bobbi took the leap, 'I'm running out of excuses.'
'Good.' Hunter stood up and moved around the counter, wrapping his arms around Bobbi, drawing her in for a lingering kiss.
'I hate you, Lance Hunter.' She murmured into his shoulder.
'I love you too Bob.'
I know it's short but let me know thoughts... x
