Summary: Pre series – Sam was a volatile teenager and frequently clashes with their father. Dean gets caught in the middle, trying to keep the peace.
Sam at sixteen was wound tighter than a watch spring. The slightest touch set him off, especially if it came from Dad. He would lash out at the nearest person, uncaring who got hurt in the cross-fire.
Maybe it wasn't Dean's brightest move to step between them when Sam and Dad's sparring session had got out of hand. Now he had Sam crying and Dad shouting while he was busy trying to hold himself together with a gaping wound in his stomach. He didn't even know whose knife it had been.
It didn't matter. The real hurt wasn't visibly bleeding.
