This idea came while I was listening to one of my favorite songs. I just wondered what would have happened if Emma hadn't been what she pretended to be. What if she had been an agent on a mission? Well I came up with that.
They don't belong to me...
Feedback: always more than appreciated (okay, I'm on my knees begging there...)
Just before it gets darkā¦
The moon rose above the mountains, shining and bringing the forest an amazing golden glow. The wind blew around her, making the tree-tops sway in time with the music she was listening to. A few tendrils of hair fell from her ponytail and Emma put them behind her ear annoyed. Nothing could soothe her. Today, it had been six months.
Her life was a mess.
The young woman had not believed her father when he had told her how hard it would be, how much she would hate herself. He had told her about the pain and the heartache but she had not listened convinced she could get over everything. Despite all his experience, she had been deaf. Another tear rolled down her cheek and she hugged her knees tighter, feeling miserable.
The mission profile had been perfect; they had made sure of that. Her wrap sheet had been perfect; even Jesse had been unable to see it was all a lie. It had taken her months to become the young woman they all knew. She had to work hard to tame her fighting skills and reflexes and look like she was helpless. The workaholic she had been had vanished leaving only the outgoing girl.
She hated the woman she had become; she hated the lies and the pain she would bring in the lives of people she had come to care about. She was too old to pretend they would get a happy ending. Happy endings never existed for people like her.
Emma still wondered where the turning point had been. Where was the moment when things had started to backfire? She had made enough public display of her powers to get the GSA chasing after her. Jesse and Shalimar had appeared exactly like her father had told her. Adam had believed every lie. They had given her access to all the computers thinking she had no knowledge how to hack and get the files she wanted. They had given her a place in their life and hearts. A few more tears fell. She was avoiding the real problem. That was why she was sitting out there, in the middle of the night instead of behind asleep in the arms of her lover.
Brennan, the unknown in the equation. The only man who had managed to get past her defences. The way he had looked at her, what she had felt then, how their first kiss had changed everything. She had never thought she would fall for him. Yet, he shared her bed every night and she needed his presence as much as she needed oxygen or food. The tears fell freely now, accompanied by small sobs. How was she supposed to tell him the truth? Sure she had shared details concerning the real Emma. But she had played with his feelings. He would never understand and forgive her. Or maybe he would and that would definitely change her world.
"Emma, why are you outside? Is something wrong?"
She had been too absorbed to notice the person coming her way from the hidden door. Hastily she wiped her eyes and cheeks. The elemental settled beside her on the flat rock. Before she could answer, he wrapped his arms around her. Despite all she had learned, despite her training, she knew she had to tell him the truth. She could not live like that. And if there was a chance for them, she would take it and never let go.
"Yes Brennan."
Her words were lost in the wind as she made her confession to her lover.
The end (maybe...)
