She smiled at the question as a single tear escaped her gentle chocolate brown eyes. "Ask me again?" she begged, "I want to hear you ask me again."
He had been afraid she would say no, and that possibility was still open as he laid himself, his feelings, everything out on the table once again.
"I have loved you since the beginning, since the first day I met you - October 1, 2001 - red wig, swollen jaw and all - I knew there was something different about you, something that I wanted to figure out."
"When I got to know you a little more, I knew it was true - you were the love of my life, my soulmate - I had to make sure you felt the same way."
"Then we went to Nice and the sparks were flying, thank god SD-6 went down after that, I don't know how much longer I would have waited."
"When you went missing, my life ended, I didn't know what to do without you. You were my life and I figured that out a little too late to tell you that I loved you with all my heart."
"But now I have you back and I want to make it permanent."
He dropped down on one knee and pulled the black velvet box out again, "Sydney Ann Bristow - will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?"
"Yes."
The diamond ring was slipped on her finger as the marker of the beginning of their new life.
