So I started at the beginning of this week and I'm hooked O_O I'm almost done with the first game, and my friend is lending me her copies in exchange for my DMC games XD Welp, it's fair, I think XD So yeah, when I got to the scene in the beginning where Altair does the Leap of Faith, I was thinking, "What if he hesitated at all? Would he have ended up like that guy, who broke his leg?" And then this happened :/ Read on, if you wish lol
Standing up there, on the wooden platform at the top of the tower, looking down into that gorge as almost seventy enemy men were staring up at me, I was starting to question "why exactly I had become an assassin."
I stared down at the gorge, felt the wind whipping around me, and I gulped. A bead of cold sweat ran down my forehead and I hid my shudder, balancing myself as a particularly hard blast of wind hit me headlong and I was almost knocked off balance. I caught myself quickly, closing my eyes and breathing. I put my arms out for balance, trying hard not to focus on the dizzying height. It was like that time back when I was running away from the guards in Acre, and I was given the choice to either jump into the water and possibly live, or be chased until I was killed. The height at that time had made me dizzy as well, and I only vaguely remembered passing out-
"Psst! Altair! Jump now!" The man next to me whispered, and I gave a startled jump. I didn't even realize it was time, I had been so absorbed in my thoughts. We went out in a wave; I took a step forward, looked out one last time, whispered "No hesitation..." And closed my eyes.
I opened my eyes as soon as I was off the platform, and held my breath. A million thoughts ran through my head: What if I missed the hay bail? What if I broke something and ended up paralyzed? What if I died on the fall down, from suffocation or something? Could I be grabbed by my hood and hoisted back up please? Before I knew it, the ground was rapidly approaching, and I panicked. What should I do? Should I take it face first or try to land on my legs or what-? I glanced over and saw both men rolling onto their backs, and slowly, I followed the motion. I hit the hay bail with my back and a loud oomph, closing my eyes tightly again.
What felt like hours passed… I shot out of the hay bail with a gulp of air, panting quietly at the rush of adrenaline as it left my body and the air that rushed into me and replaced it. I heard one of the men next to mean scream, a crack shaking my body as I heard his leg crunch under his weight. I gave a shaky breath and stood, unsteady on my own feet, and padded over slowly. He had tears rushing down his face, and he was gripping his leg. I felt sore, but that was nothing compared to the excruciating pain he was in. "May I…?"
"It will be fine, I can care for him. Go, take the beams and join up with the others, rain death upon the intruders." The first man told me, tending to the other man's leg. "It will be fine."
I started running at the sound of his leg being snapped back into place, and I promised myself I'd never look back, I'd never hesitate again, because I knew if I did, I'd end up with a broken leg like my fellow assassin… Or worse.
Ah, drabbles. My babies. I'm done :D I hope you enjoyed it? XD
