He listened to them softly snoring nearby. These were the sounds of sleeping that he had become accustomed to, but they weren't the ones that he needed to hear.

He turned from his back to his side, curling his legs so that his knees touched his chest. He shuddered in the cold lonelyness.

A single tear dropped from his cheek onto the cold ground where he was lying.

Yes, he was crying. He pulled something from his pocket and held it in front of his face. He observed every detail. Though he could not see well in the dark, its image was imprinted on his mind because of how many times he had looked at it.

First of all, it was the shape of a star, or perhaps a papou fruit. It was yellow in the center and faded slowly to pink as it reached the edges, much like a flower. There were small grey crosses where the string that connected the shells was. At the edges of every shell were three points. All of the shells were identical, except for the one at the top. A familiar face was drawn there, faded and worn from the perfection that it once was.

Sora felt another tear edge away from his eye as he stared at the sillhouette of his prized posession.

He brought it to his chest and a sob escaped his throat. Luckilly, his friends stayed fast asleep.

Yes, he admitted that they were his friends, but he had not known them as long as Kairi and Riku. He had not grown with them.

Sora kept silent as more tears streamed from his eyes. The ground was becoming muddy and his head was beginning to hurt.

Reluctantly, he stood up and walked to a nearby river. He stared at the reflection of the moonlight on the rushing water.

If he held his head underwater, it would all be over in a matter of minutes. It would be painful, but only for a few minutes... Then it would be over. If he didn't, his heart would hurt so much more and so much longer...

He stared at the water for a few moments longer before walking slowly back to where he was supposed to be sleeping.

There was still a chance that he would see them again, after all, wasn't there? He would stay alive for them. He would see them again, even if it took years... Even if it was only at his death bed, he would see them again.

He glanced back to his unconscous friends and deposited the star-shaped trinket in his pocket.

"I need more affection than you know..."
