Why the world needs Superman
Lois Lane
For the past week as the Earth sits holding her breath wondering if our great hero of the night will survive we find ourselves doing our own form of heroism in gratitude to him. A mugger was caught when a high school student turned his phone into police witch had the muggers image on it. A woman who's husband was pushing her out a window was saved when concerned citizens took mattresses out of a store and layered them where the woman would fall cushioning her fall, saving her life. Also the husband was held hostage in the hallway of his apartment building until police arrived by even more concerned citizens. Saving not only the woman's life but that of two of her children still in the apartment and ending a violent cycle everyone had heard but no one had ever stopped.
Neighbors now stand watch in high crime neighborhoods daring thieves or gangs to do anything. A millionaire donated his 5 lush vacation homes to working class families who could never afford to take vacation, even paying them salary for a whole month as they lived at his houses and enjoyed the company of his family. Loggers helped a scared black bear cub when, because of the noise the machines make, he was separated from his mother and was stranded on ledge near a cliff. The loggers arranged cut tree's to act as a path to reunite mom and cub safely.
It is these acts of kindness that are the reason we need Superman. Superman isn't a God to be put up on a pedestal. Superman is a man, from another world, who by doing coming deeps for his planet, inspires us as a race to do more and be more as a human race.
I have a long been a cynic and pessimist. Even writing a story saying were as a race are better off with out Superman but if a man can inspire us to do so much when all he is doing is what is natural then I say we do need Superman. We need someone to look up to when we feel down and lost. We need someone we know we can trust we deepest secretes, and simplest truths. He isn't a God and we should never hold him to the standards of our Gods but he is Superman, a man to inspire and guide the human race to become an even greater race of people.
