The Legend Of IceClan

A Tale of the Great Clan of the North

Once, two cats, one old, and one in his prime, travelled alongside each other. They had been chased from their home in Twolegplace, forced to leave. They were not related, nor look it. The older tom was as black as the Night from which he took his name, the other golden as the Day from which he took his. They knew not where they truly were going, only that they had to find somewhere safe to live.

As they traveled along, Night leaning on Day, the began to pass through many places. Many different cats -tortoiseshells, tabbies, and all manner of colours - watched them as they passed by. Some felt a kinship with the two travellers, and so they took up the voyage with them. Soon, a rather large sized group of cats were travelling along, following Night and Day. Before long, they began the steep climb up a mountain.

Day and Night lead the cats up the mountain, helping them any way they could. They found them shelter from the harsh winds and snows behind rocky outcroppings and snow drifts. The snowflakes began sticking to some of the cats pelts, so that they became yellows and light browns and greys and whites, and that the only thing they could see of one another was the pinks of their noses and the glints of their eyes.

Soon, the cats came to a cave. They tried to settle in it; unfortunately, it was a trifle too small. So the cats continued up the mountain, Day and Night still leading them onward through the snow. After a few more days of travel, they reached another cave, but this time, it was too big; and what creature in their right mind would want to live in a place of drafts? No, they continued onwards, further up the mountain, higher up in the altitudes.

One day, Night, now a dull grey, turned to Day, a very pale yellow now, and bade farewell. Night collapsed, and doing so knocked over a large clump of snow, clinging to a cave opening. It fell atop the body and Day was surprised to find the cave lead inside the mountain, perfectly carved and wonderfully shaped. It was neither too small nor too large, and there were several caves branching off of a larger one, in which a large stone sat in the centre.

Day gathered the cats inside and under the full moon took the name Mountainstar. He named his deputy Frostwillow, and his warriors after other things he spotted; Caveshadow, Blizzardmist, Dawnstreak, Moondapple. His queens; Icefur, Rosepetal, Stonebrook. And the only apprentice was named Falconpaw. Night was given the name Nightfire, and that night, with the stars shining brightly overhead, was buried and mourned for by his Clan:

IceClan.
