A Death In The Family

"You've killed her!"

A single tear rolled onto the desk. In front of Moss, sat a cold, lifeless body. It was unlikely that he'd ever feel her warmth again, or be able to keep her for much longer. On the opposite side of the desk stood Roy, who had held his head in his hand.

"I've not killed her, Moss! It happens to everyone," Roy retorted, rolling his eyes in annoyance. "Not just you! Let's just dispose of it, and move on!"

"Dispose of?!" Moss spat angrily, and then crossed his arms and shook his head. "You don't understand, Roy! You don't understand, she meant something to me! Don't you understand?!" he yelled, shaking Roy before looking upon the horror scene in front of him again, and hit his head on the table, before letting out another silent sob.

"Look Moss, it was an accident… I didn't mean to 'kill' her," Roy replied hesitantly, then looked down again. No fixing that, he thought, before placing his hand on the table. "It'll be alright, I promise."

"What's going on in here?" Jen said as she peeked her head around. Yelling was common in this office, and nothing was too out of the ordinary. She never knew what to expect when she opened her door.

"SHE'S DEAD!"

Another hysterical sob came from Moss. "Oh Moss..." soothed Jen, as she walked over and patted Moss on the back. Typical Moss, to be so sensitive about something like this. "I'm going to leave you two, to have some time with her alone."

"Jen, Jen, Jen, noooo!" Roy sighed as she strutted out of the room. Jen never does anything!"Look, Moss, here's a niiiice book of equations." Roy's attempts to cheer him up ended badly. As he passed Moss the book, Moss lashed out and threw the book at him. 'So much for that!'

"M-Moss, please, stop crying, okay?" Roy's voice was less harsh now, and he was sitting next to Moss. Yet, Moss' sobs didn't stop. Roy gently hugged him, making sure not to get the masses of hair that stood up on Moss' head tangled. "It's not the end of the world," he reassured, patting Moss gently on the back.

"Really?" Roy heard Moss softly sniffle, as he wiped his glasses, which were wet from his tears.

"Yes," Roy replied. "We all go through losses, and you know, it'll be alright. You've got Jen and I, haven't you?"

"Well, in MY opinion, Jen didn't seem very sympathetic."

"Jen's always like that," Roy retorted. Jen hadn't been any help, or even tried to be even remotely empathetic. "You'll get through it. I promise."

"I will?"

"Yes."

Moss looked at the dead computer which laid on his desk. As he stood up slowly, he felt Roy tap him on his shoulder.

"Let's go buy you a new computer."

And for once, Moss was happy to do as Roy told him.
