As you stood in front of the mirror brushing your hair, you noticed Erwin sitting on the bed, trying his very best to button up his shirt with one hand.
"Do you need help, Erwin?" you said, watching him through the mirror.
"Yeah…" he said quietly.
You turned around and walked over to him. He looked up at your face as you quickly fastened all the buttons from the bottom to the top on his shirt.
"You need to tell me when you need help." You mumbled.
"You always seem to know." He replied, putting his arm around your waist, inviting you to sit on his lap.
It was so hard to ignore. You never looked at him and didn't look at it. His arm was gone. Everything got so much more difficult for him since the accident. He couldn't even button his shirt on his own anymore.
"Is it uncomfortable?" you asked, placing your hand on the shoulder that attached to the stump he has left.
"Not uncomfortable… it just feels strange." He replied. "Sometimes it still hurts. My arm."
Erwin was often plagued with nightmares about the accident. His eyes would fly open and his hand would fly to the arm in question only to find just sheets.
"I'm glad you're alright." You said, placing a kiss against his cheek. "As bad as this is, it could never be as bad as losing you."
"It's not so bad." He responded. "It makes me look tough, don't you think?" he said with a small smile.
"Heh, I guess." You said, burring your face into his neck.
"And if I get to have you help me put on my clothes… and take them off…" he said jokingly.
"Erwin!"
"What? Can't I flirt with my wife?"
You giggled and kissed his neck where your face was.
"I wish I could put both my arms around you."
"I wish you could too."
"Sorry I got hurt. After I promised not to."
"You're not hurt. Just… disabled. Like an old man."
"Oh great." He said, slightly smiling.
"But you're my old man. And I love you no matter what."
"And I love you, my young, beautiful woman."
"I never said you weren't handsome. Quite the contrary. You're only getting better with age."
"I knew I looked tougher without the arm." He joked
"Somehow I seem to have fallen even more in love with you since you lost it."
"Why, didn't you like it?" he joked again
"It made me realize how quickly things can change. It could've been so much worse. I certainly appreciate our time together even more now."
"Me too." He whispered.
You moved your head to rest against his chest, listening to his strong heartbeat. Erwin would have to get to a meeting soon, but for now, he was yours.
